We've been offered a free cabinet

We finished painting out two spare bedrooms today and tomorrow we’ll be putting the furniture back in and setting them up ready for guests. Late this afternoon we visited friends who gave us a great number of novels. They have their house up for sale and are decluttering. They also offered us a beautiful marri cabinet that they can’t take with them. While we’d like it, I’m not sure it’s going to fit in the only available space we have so we’ll need to think on it for a while and work out if we can move things around so that it will fit. Marri is also called redgum and is a beautiful wood. We know they paid a lot to have to paid but they say they don't want anything for it. I don’t have a photo of it so here is another of a candelabra in the mirror box. You might remember my last post was of paper clips in the box.

@FayeHazel @JohnRoberts We've measured and I don't think we have a wall long enough for it. We'll need to measure it again very precisely. Certainly I'll take it if I can find somewhere for it.

It is looking iffy. We'll need to measure it again very exactly.

You should take it only if you need it and not want it.

@JudyEv My sis in law's house is packed with that which they got after emptying their ancestral home The house has more furniture than space to move around

@allknowing That isn't the case in my home. I really meant it is a big piece of furniture and if the house were empty there would still be very few places it would fit.

If we take it we will regift the one it replaces.

Ooooh a dresser, I would have to find a place for it if I was offered. I have a thing about furniture, its called "can't say no" but I totally understand if you didn't have room. (I hope you find room) I love that mirror box!!

@JudyEv Yes, the mirror box is amazing, great idea with that one. Hmmm, what else can you put in that thing, something with lots of colors

There is really only one spot where it might fit. We need to measure it again more precisely. The mirror box worked a treat didn't it?

@FayeHazel That's one reason we're accepting. We are not doing someone else out of it.

It is really generous of them. If we don't want it (can't take it) they will offer it back to the maker and let him resell it.

I'm trying really hard to find a wall where it will fit. It is very long as cabinets go.

These mirror box photos are great. I thought maybe you would put the new cabinet in one of the guest rooms.

I hadn't really thought of that but it's a good idea. I think it is more a showpiece though. The grain is really lovely

Vince is in seventh heaven. I'm wondering how I'll find room in the bookshelves for them. I was just the shelves a bit organised and now there is a heap more to try to fit in.

@Marilynda1225 You've probably read that we miscalculated and it will fit where we'd like it to go after all. So I'm really pleased.

It looks very reflective. Sometimes you can get good things when people move. I remember one time when I lived in apartments a guy gave me his vacuum cleaner, because he didn't want to take it with him..

This is a beautifully made, craftsman-built cabinet but they say it will be too 'country' 'for their next house - and too large. I haven't found a wall long enough to take it yet. We need a very precise measurement.

Another great picture. As for the cabinet, if you can't find a place for it I suppose you could always sell it eventually. I'd wait a bit before trying though. Might make the giver a bit curious.

We mismeasured and now it will fit so all is good. Of course, they have to sell their place first which could easily take a year or even more.
