Tulsi Gabbard is planning to run for Presidency in the US in 2020. I must admit I knew nothing about this person until the appearance of this article I am fantasizing about the prospect of having a Hindu as US President. What do you think? Is there a possibility and if so would it be good for United States?
If elected, the 37-year-old lawmaker would be the youngest president in the history of United States.

She has no chance, but it has nothing to do with her heritage or her religion.

This article has gone out of its way to emphasise the fact that she is a Hindu and that attracted me. Having said that there is no reason why that fact should not influence a voter.

@porwest In that case there is no reason why this fact should be highlighted as in fact this lady is an American going by who her parents are

@allknowing If you will remember, John F. Kennedy faced a TON of opposition since he was a Catholic, and Catholics are not generally elected. A Hindu would most certainly NOT be elected.

I checked her name on Wikipedia, she was born in American Samoa, so she is American. Both her parents are American from birth.

Strange that she is called a Hindu. It would be interesting to know who her ancestors were.

@allknowing Both his parents are US born but both are from European ancestors. Her mother practiced Hindu religion. Tulsi chose Hinduism as her religion while she was a teenager. Here it is explained why she is called "Hindu", not for her descendants, but from her religion.

Its sad that its a mater of religion or differences like that. I really wish that with all of the new changes that we have seen in the last election bringing people more than just old white guys into the political realm... that we really can get to a point where we actually have decent people who have real important global interests come into office to work on those true interests. like true humility, care and actions to protect the environment, human well being instead of profit and hate, etc. The Dem verses republicans shouldn't be a battle. it should be whats right for people!

The sad part is there is this tendency to tear each other apart no matter how much the country benefits from the role these two parties have played when in power.

I don't think she has a chance to be the president but I don't think her religion is the reason, she is pretty much unknown in most of the country.
