A marriage proposal during a protest yesterday

The media speak mainly of the violence occurring during yellow vests protests in France, but it seems that it is also the right place to be for dating. Since the beginning of the movement last November I read about many marriages among protesters. And finally we have a video, filmed yesterday near the Castillet of Perpignan. It has been a state prison, I suppose it is a good place to ask to be chained. A biker offered flowers to another biker and knelt to ask for her hand during a protest. A romantic moment, only the tear gas was lacking to make it perfect, the police is never there when you need it in this country !
samedi 12 janvier une demande en Mariage de notre célèbre motard très actif des Gilets Jaunes de Perpignan. Tous nos vœux de bonheurs à Cyric et sa charmante fiancée. La mariée était en Jaune !!!!

Haha, that's pretty funny. I wonder what moved him to propose at that moment? Whatever, I hope they have a nice life together.

It is not common, for sure. Maybe he was seeing her only on Saturdays ? Or it is because all their bikers friends were there.

Perfect place to be chained, you are right. Let's hope they are going to have a peaceful life.

They will have a nice anecdote to tell to their children, but it will be difficult to dissuade them to go to demonstrations.

Ahh, just think of the stories they'll tell their grandchildren... That biker has about as much sense as the guy who proposed to his intended in the middle of a marathon she was running.

And they did not ended the marathon, or she ran faster to escape? I viewed again the video, and, not far from the end, he gives her a wedding ring. They will certainly have a lot to tell to their children.

Beautiful love the proposal story. If only they would do proposals every day instead. Here they are doing the Taxi drivers thing in Barcelona and soon it will be all over the place yet again. Yes they are on strike and blocking the roads yet again and that includes the M--40. Love the romance between the couple though and the guy in the background saying oh yes and hip hip hooray. If anything like that goes on with the Taxi Drivers will let you know but at the moment its all a load of shouting and fighting.

@topffer You went to Irún? Did you buy anything while you were there? If you went to Irún you must have gone to that Bar/Cafetería I mention to you its by a huge car park thing and lots of French people go there usually it was called Behobia although I know that there is a street I think named the same. I love going there. Yes they are wanting to take their strike to the next level and put it all over Spain again. So they will be blocking roads anywhere now even as far as the border of France. I can see that they mean it more than ever they have said whatever it takes for all the mess to be sorted out. I am just trying to see if they have been able to rescue someone from a Pothole very touch and go this one tops everyone is praying that the said person will be safe or at least alive somewhat.

@topffer The pothole story did not come out well but if anything a lot of holes that have been dug are now going to be filled in very dangerous potholes or wells whatever they were supposed to be. Have a beautiful day tops.

It is a nice story, they found love in a protest I did not knew that taxi drivers were striking in Spain. And by the way, I went to Irun last Sunday, I was not far from you.

He must have been too busy or never gathered enough courage to do the act of proposing somewhere else???

Yellow vests are the busiest people here : when they do not work they block roads or protest. How would he had found the time to do a marriage proposal ?

@YrNemo No, it is something new, people from the countryside started to wear the yellow vest that every one needs to have by law in a car to protest against a gas tax raise last October. It has turned since to a movement against neo-liberalism.

@topffer thanks for that, never notice the importance/significance of that yellow vest on people until reading your comment (I am the clueless type!). You mean in your country, people wear yellow vests when they go protesting? That is so interesing.

Yes, the fault to our government, it will not stop before they bring a clear political response to the protesters.

Well that must've been completely unexpected - a marriage proposal during a protest! And she could not protest no . It might not be most romantic. but certainly memorable! We are having our own protest starting tomorrow . . . will let you know if I hear of any proposals (many will be wearing red - at least that would make it a little more romantic than a yellow vest ).

@topffer And true, isn't it? I am surprised at that moment that it did not actually come into fashion - or did it ? I somehow visualize a fragrance bottle with a yellow vest on it . A revolution it is! Our teachers are striking against our school district. Not just about a puny raise (which they will get - so really it is not about income despite what the media has been pushing), but poor working conditions which not only affects their teaching, but the learning environment for the kids. Our school district superintendent is a money hoarding jerk . . . he and others upstairs are trying to rip apart our public school system and privatize them into charter schools. It is not just a strike . . . it is a movement for all our public schools across the nation. We stand behind our teachers - and we will be there too, though not with yellow vests .

@much2say No, it has never been fashionable before the yellow vests movement, and I have a yellow K-Way that I cannot wear anymore since November. I got a cold last month and decided to buy a dark blue new K-Way as I do not see that ending soon. A revolution, not yet, but it will become one soon or later if the government does not bring a clear political response to these people instead of sending the police and trying to demonize them. Macron has decided to launch a "Great National Debate" on January 15th. I read today the letter that he sends to every French and that I will receive next week, and I am not convinced that it will stop these people to be in the streets next Saturday, as he says that he stays faithful to his program and will not modify what he did. The discussion is opened only on the way to go to reach his goals on several points. He is more opened on a "more democracy" point, although he forgets the powers of the president on things that may perhaps be modified. I think that this debate is just an attempt to blow smoke ; if it turns to be that, yes, this country will count a revolution more. I have always been in public schools, and I support you. Something that I dislike over all here is the way public services are privatized. At the end we pay more for basic things like water or gas because the share holders need to have their piece of cake. Education is a primordial thing that states have to assume plainly. Do not give up !

@topffer What happened to your yellow K-Way? Was to too much like the yellow vests? I did not know what K-Way was so I had to look it up . . . looks like a good quality brand. Well I'm glad you got another one - one should have appropriate outerwear to keep warm and dry in winter weather - plus dark blue goes with more clothing than yellow . I have been reading the "debates" did not stop the Yellow Vests and the protests continue. They are hard core protesters - and oh the violence at times! I guess neither side is budging? But it's interesting because we can actually relate. This week we participated in the strike more than just wearing red. We have been striking along side with the teachers every single day - many families have - most of us has pulled our kids out from entering the school. The superintendent (previous investment banker) and board have not budged (as I mentioned, their agenda is to crumble our big school district and public schools as we know it - they are already getting their piece of cake) . . . but our side is not budging either. We have not been violent - actually it's been mostly peaceful - it's the scabs and subs that have been hired from upstairs (non-union) that have been stirring up unpleasantness (and there is video proof!). We are just doing our part to support the teachers all we can during this time. It has also been a great civil lesson for the kids. On FB we have seen so much support from other schools/districts from around the US and other countries . . . one of the first being France ! There are negotiations happening right now through Monday . . . we are all awaiting the outcome news of the bargaining table for this weekend. But I have a feeling we will go on to Day 6 starting Tuesday.
