Do you prefer silver or gold?

I did something yesterday I've either never done before, or not in years or not all at once, and that is clip my fingernails. I was probably a biter when a child but got away from that. It took me years and by that I mean years to quit picking them instead. They were never down to the quick but they were also never all the same length and rarely were they all long. One time my sister asked why I didn't trim down my one longer to nail to be even with the rest and I wouldn't because I had to enjoy my one long nail as they didn't last. Once I went through menopause it seemed like I did better growing them out and I've found that when I'm off work for a while like I have been recently since November and two years ago when I had my first knee replaced that they've grown longer and more evenly. Since I'm planning on going back to work a week from today I decided I should trim them a bit shorter. I've been thinking it's getting a harder polish out on them so they all don't break in the first few days. But I don't know if the harder, more, long lasting polish will cause more breakage once it wears off. I've never had fake nails and don't plan on that at this time in my life. Have any of you ever used the polish that lasts longer? I think it needs to be done at a salon. As far as the silver and gold I bought two colors for Christmas to wear with the shirt in the background. It has gold streaks on a grey background. The silver is a gel and the gold a normal, wear off faster polish although both chip and wear off quick. I do my nails to blessed me and I don't worry overmuch about applying it perfectly. Sorry to anyone who thought this would be a a discussion about money.

The gel polish lasts long and looks great. Once in started using it I don't use anything else.

Do you buy the more expensive type from a place like Ulta or something similar and do you use a heat lamp to harden it? I have Sally Hansen's gel and have never heated it. Maybe that's all I need to do invest in something like that, except, I'm not sure how often I will take the time to use it correctly.

@Happy2BeMe How long have you gotten the Sally Hansen gel polish to last vs the ones you get from salons? The ones from salons are the also gel types?

I am not sure which one I like best. I once had silver nail polish, and I think that it looked nice. It would interesting to try gold as well and compare them. I have several different kinds of nailpolish, but I don't use it very often. One of my friends does nail art. She lives in another part of the country and she has never done my nails, but I would like to try her nail art one day.

I've never paid for nail art. I did buy stickers from work but they didn't stay on very well. I found them when cleaning last night and thought about putting a few on a portion of my nails and then maybe a clear polish over the top to stop them from catching or me from rubbing them off. I have a week to see whether I'll bother trying that out. If I do, maybe I can get another image with the stickers. The gold polish isn't a gel and doesn't cover as well. The silver looks much better, My picture doesn't show the colors very well, the one on the lower left is the silver, the one of the lower right the gold. Those nails already have two coats on the, but it looks like barely one.

@MarshaMusselman I have never paid for nail art either, but I might try it if I visit my friend. I have seen some pictures of the nail art she has done, and it looks great. I also think that the picture of the silver polish looks much better. It covers better. I have tried different kinds of nail polish in the past, and some of them were like the gold polish you used. It didn't cover the nails well. Other kinds of nail polish were a lot of better and I got a good result right from the start.

@Porcospino I've never gotten a great result right from the start, or at least I don't remember. But maybe I've never started with just the gel. I'll have to give that a go the next time. I think I have one or two other colors here somewhere. I did put a sticker on this morning and I should have trimmed it first. I thought there would be some clearance. I'll live with it as is. I'm going to try taking a picture but that's my dominant hand and I may need to send the picture later when I do one nail on the other hand. I got it, but the polish looks green in this picture, it's the same silver.

I like the nail gels as well, I get them done at a salon for my pedicure. I chew my fingernails so they are too short for polish.

@BelleStarr Well,, actually, I've not been there in about four years, but I can say that the weather is warmer than it is in Michigan this time of year. Not as warm as I thought it would be but shorts weather for most. I wore pants over my shorts and I was cold in the mornings but by lunch time I was over heating, so would just slip my jeans off and be good to go. The images is clothes on the line from there too. And, I changed my age, think I can pass for and eighteen year old?

I finally quit chewing mine when I got over forty, but still pick them when they get nicks in them. I don't always, or rarely do I have a nail file handy. Going back to work on Sunday, my nails may not be long much after that. I have to redo all of them now because my one hand lost the polish after being waved about in a cup of acetone to get superglue off. Until last night, that hand did fine for four days keeping the polish intact. But again, I'm not working at present. Dianne suggested the powder dips for longevity. I see them online and will check in my store first to see if we carry such a thing before checking elsewhere. She thinks it helps strenthen the nails without harm.

My favorite is teal which matches my glasses although I don't wear things just to match since it's the only pair of glasses I own. If I didn't work in a store that sold them I'd probably not buy many bottles. Even then, the younger generation and others my age here in the states probably own as many bottles of polish as they have shoes, I have a limited supply of each.

We sell all colors and most women I see when working have their nails done professionally, which I either can't afford, or choose not to spend my 'silver and gold' in that fashion, I bought the two colors to wear with my Christmas shirt which didn't end up getting worn for Christmas as I was home in bed with both a migraine and sinus headache/pressure. I sort of like the silver, gel one as it seems unobtrusive oddly enough. I don't take time to redo my nails once the color begins coming off and I'm hoping it won't be as obvious with this particular color, but I could be wrong.

The polish looks great on you. I get gel or powder dip manicures. They last forever, but I get them done every 3 weeks. I've been wearing polish since I was in 3rd grade and ran the gamut of different nail lengths. I prefer short and neat now.

With the gel or powder dip manicures does that mean it's a form of polish over your own nails rather than having fake nails on top? Does that affect the natural nail in any adverse way?

That's kind of funny actually. I know that a few people visited this discussion because they thought I might be talking about money, but I would think since you had coins it wouldn't show, but the search doesn't really know what the topic is. Did you end up finding anything related to what you wanted to find? If not, you may need something more generic like 'coins' or money or something.

I used to bite my fingernails as a child and even into my teenage years. Then in my 30's my nails got worse, as my thyroid started to act up. My nails would split and get thin, and they still do. When they grow, they are never the same length either, and I've only been a member of the menopause club for about a year now, so I haven't seen any real improvement. I do know that when I war polish my nails weaken. Its like they need oxygen and cannot get it when they have polish on them, and they will all break back. I love your choice of polish, it looks so nice.

Well, congrats, I think, for making it into the 'club', lol. I went through it in my forties, and I've no idea when I noticed that my nails were doing better. Maybe that wasn't the reason, but I'm not sure. When I don't wear polish my nails break, but maybe it would be that way whether I have polish on or not. I think when I wear polish I might baby them more, to a degree.

The shirt's pretty, but I can't tell the difference in the nail polish. The one on the left looks more distinct in gold, the one on the right looks like gold too. I don't wear nail polish very often so I can't tell you what to do about hard nail polish.

You're right in that they look the same. Actually the thicker looking one looks more gold and the other more yellow. I don't know that I knew the exact color I was getting before buying them. After talking with others here, I think I will just see how using the gel ones work out. If most of my nails break anyway, I'll probably just do as I did before and not do much with my nails until I'm off again and they again grow better.

I almost didn't look this response up as I was sure it was a few days old. Now, I'm glad that I did. I may end up keeping them shorter than I had them before doing this post as I was concerned about scratching my eye not being used to longer nails. I also tried to punch in my cell number at the check out lane for coupons and it took me four times to get it right. That's one reason I knew I should trim them even if I didn't want to.

I enjoy having it in my nails butt I'm not very consistent with the maintenance part of it. I'm going to check out getting some powder dips as it looks like it can be bought online and used at home.

I think either would be fine in the gel but the silver does cover better being a gel polish. So far the hand with the silver and a clear coat on top has lasted four days but once I start back to work I'm sure that will change.
