so now just writing your nickname is not enough?

there are plenty of salons and spas here that you can walk in any time without an appointment. however, some have started having a logbook at the reception to write your name down to ensure first-come, first-served is followed. i used to write only my nickname and my general location, if they insist, and it was okay back then. at some spas, they would ask for my mobile number, but i always decline, and it was no issue. last month, though, i went to a salon for the second time and this time, they insisted i fill out everything. as in: full name, address, mobile number and birthday! the staff said it's required before i can avail of their service, so i walked out instead. do spas and salons where you live do this? would you complain?

Maybe something happened to their store or others out there that they were forced to be strict. Can't blame them if this was insist by the management.

I have not seen this in my place. I would also decline this. Why would they require mobile number and birthday?

Here, usually a name is just fine. My hair person has my number - and the kids hair cutting place has my number (they keep track of how their hair was cut). But never have they asked for my address or birth date - I don't know why they would need that (unless they birthday specials). Making it a requirement would make me walk out (that's too many personal details they don't need to know!).

@hereandthere I've seen them do that for online promotions - you sign up and then you get to take advantage of their promotions. But I haven't seen that in person or by phone just to set up an appointment. They might ask if you'd like to, but it's never mandatory in order to get service.

i think it's to inform you in case they have special promotions and, of course, on your birthday, too in the past, the spa and salon attendants don't talk about their other services while working on you. now they do.

@hereandthere do you remember the scam before, while walking in the mall someone will approach you and ask your information, like mobile phone number and name and ask if you are married or single. ask you to fill up data in exchange of the plastic spoon or something interesting..

I wouldn't give them these details. Why on earth do they need your birthdate?

maybe they want to know the age ranges of their customers, but also greet and offer special deals on your birthday

@hereandthere Probably age would be fine and not your birthdate. Mobile number would be okay too so they can inform you of anything important like cancelling your appointment because of the unavailability of their staff.

i can understand if they want to get an idea of where their customers are coming from, so i can give my general location. but no mobile or birthday. i don't want to receive unwanted calls or texts.

I would assume at places here they would ask for first and last name especially if paying with a credit card.

people here usually pay cash at salons and spas, but in that situation, yes.

That's too much of a requirement. Though, i think they would want to greet you on your birthday as their way of thanking you. That's one marketing strategy but that's too.much invasio of your privacy.

@hereandthere Oh yes, spas and salons are a plenty even here. That is what is good when they are plenty. They become competitive and do a lot of mrketing strategies such as free.this and that if you take their promos.

i think competition is so tight that even their people are offering you services while they're working on you

that's why i refuse to give my mobile number. i only go when i have to, so it's useless and distracting to inform me of any special promos.

In my country, this is what they do as well except that no address, birthday and mobile number. So it is just name and NRIC.

Well Maybe because of some issues they faced before, they have these new rules coming up.. I can't say if it is wrong, as I don't know why they made this rule..

@Sheali so they only call or text you to come when it's your turn already? they don't text you when they have special promotions/offerings?

@hereandthere I don't have to.. I go to normal beauty parlors.. I am not a spa fan.. I hate waiting in the que.. Here we do get appointments, but I would rather do something energetic than sitting in a spa.. But we don't need so many details.. just full name and contact number
