Caged birds

Keeping birds in a cage, something I can’t appreciate. But I remember, I had parrots as pet in my childhood and I was so happy to feed them that time. Being a child I was not aware about the difficulties they have by living in a small place. Now I am matured enough to understand the realities and they deserve enough space to fly and get food by their own. We shifted our house last week and having some renovations works there we are living a friend’s house as a temporary stay. They (friend and family) have gone to visit their parents. They have two parrots as pet and we are taking care of them at present. We bought ripened guavas and green peas for them and they are so happy to eating the same. However, I felt for them and I don’t know why people wanted to keep them in cage. Do you like caging birds or animals? Image has taken in my mobile

i love animals but i hate to put them behind the bars that is not at all good. But most of the people love to grow them and thats their way to keep them in cage for their good.

@sunilparthan Yes, in case of animals, they have freedom to move around, For birds, their freedom abandoned.

True.. Even I don't like keeping birds in cages.. Luckily, I have a garden and many birds come there.. In fact there is a pair which has been living in one of our trees for more than 2 years now.. It is called bulbul in Hindi..

That is the natural way and I do appreciate that. We have to give them enough freedom.

I am with you on this. Many do not believe when I say our garden is designed with birds in mind

You are doing a brilliant way, having so many birds in your garden but never disturb them with their freedom.

No I don't. think for while if some cage us, what we feel. It is with birds. we also had parrot as pet in my childhood. But I believe in freedom. Cage is not natural residence of birds.

Pets, animals, birds and fishes that were bred in captivity especially for many generations do not really know how it is in the wild and would probably have a very small chance of surviving when set free and are better off with humans as pets. I get you, I think what you mean are poached animals from the wild and then caged, that's terrible for them.I feel that this practice should be banned.

I understand if it is doing for their safety. Otherwise can't accept it. People might have think they are doing favours to them by giving food and protection.

@Sreekala I also don't like to keep birds as pets.As a middle school student I had once opened the door of the cage in which my elder brother had kept a parrot as his pet.The bird was in the cage for years.I brought it out and set it free, but it could not fly.So I again put it in the cage lest any cat or dog might eat it.

Yes, that is the sad part. Since they are taken care of by others, they loose their confidence and feel scare.

@Shivram59 Not only flying but on searching food, mingle with other birds, facing the environment and other living beings, all are difficult for them.

@Sreekala Yes,after spending a large part of their life in cage they "forget" how to fly.

I have a very large cage for my bird i rescued . It was a domesticated bird who must have gotten away from someone. He was skinny and stuck in ground cover outside a restaurant. He is very healthy and happy now. He would have not survived outside.

That is a different situation. I agree some are in need of protection.

My parrot was bred in captivity and wouldn't be able to survive outside in the wild.

Some are like that, if we kept them in cage and feed them then they won't be able to survive by searching food by their own.

Birds are the pets I don't have in the house. Keeping may be help the owner to deal the stress, just like maintaining aquarium.

Keeping birds as a pet is not bad but we have to provide enough space to fly and their freedom should not be limited.

The way we are doing it. Yes, some one must be there to feed them in time.
