Do grandparents "spoil" their grandkids??!!

Grandparents always have a soft spot for grandkids and shower them with gifts and treats and never are stern with them when they are naughty. It's one of the exciting parts of childhood. Does this pampering lead to spoilt kids? Were you spoilt by your grandparents?

Generally the spoiling is for short periods of time and I think it is a nice thing really. The kids feel really special as do the grandparents. It might be different if the grandparents and children lived together.

Even if they live together, it usually doesn't make them bad children as grandparents also teach them to love, goodanners and many things.

@pitstop That's very true. As long as grandparents respect rules laid down by the parents, all will be well.

I spoil my grandchildren and I enjoy doing it. I treasure any time that I get to spend with them.

For me yes, my parents and my father in law spoiled my son haha, they always give what my son wants, I think it because my son is their only grandson hehe

Does that make him happy and grateful or rude and demanding?

I must agree with this because i have witnessed a lot of grandparents spoiling their grandkids so they grow up rude.

I've always found it to be playful and enriching as they learn to enjoy family

@pitstop well your case is better than some cases i have seen. I like the way my parents brought me up. They did not give those things i wanted to have. They told me to work hard for them.

Damn right we do! From extra treats to letting them get away with staying up late. But that's only one day a week so it's a special time for all of us and I don't think they'll grow up spoiled - their parents keep them firmly under control!

Since I am raising my grand kids I can't as most grand parents do spoil them then send them home. I really don't think it leads to a spoiled kid though. Just a special well grandma lets me do it kid.*Laughs* I stayed with my grandma most of my childhood because my mom worked so many hours when I was growing up.I can't say I was spoiled by my grandma and grandpa , but to hear my cousins talk, they think I was. Hahahaha it is just because I was their favorite!

I was definitely not spoiled by my grandparents we didn’t see them that often because of how far apart we lived fromeach other. When we did see each other they didn’t buy me or my brothers all kind of things. Some times a small gift. Mostly they just made sure we where feed. We never really asked for anything. My kids are not spoiled either. They do see there’s grandparents more then I saw mine. My parents some times take them to see a movie, take them to an activity. A lot of the times my kids just want to spend time with times they might ask for a gift and I tell my parents to or my husband if you want to get them something clothes or something less then $5.
