Urban Myths Wednesday : Wandering Bus

United States

No, not quite Mythology Wednesday. I may make a discussion for that later. I came across this and thought of mylot. Philly has a bus that few know of and fewer talk about. It isn't a bus that everyone can see. It is for the downcast, the disheartened, the lonely. It is for those who aren't sure where they are going in life, who aren't sure what this life is all about. The bus shows up but you have to run for it, just a little ways though. You have to show that you need this bus. The bus doesn't have the usual marquee with a destination. You aren't required to pay if you can't afford it. You simply get on and stare out at the city before you. Eventually, unseeing, you'll pull the cord and disembark. Usually you will find you aren't far away from where you needed to go. Some say that if you ride it long enough, you'll end up at a time and place before you were so down trodden. More info here: Do you think such a bus really exists? Would you get on?
There is a bus in Philadelphia which SEPTA does not talk about.  It is not listed on the website.  It has neither schedule nor route.  It drives the city in a pattern known only to its driver, and …

Not sure, it probably does not exist and if it did I would be hesitant.

Yes, I don't really think it exists either. I think someone just made it up and it's more of a symbol than anything else.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. Whoever started this myth might have been doing so to use the bus as more of a symbol than anything, and not just a story to shock people.

I thought the same thing! It certainly reminds me of am episode where a man gets off a bus and he's in a ghost town. I think he got off a bus anyway...

I am sure I would be able ot see it, but I am not so sure I would get on it. It seems rather "twilight zoneesque"

Love things like this, but I would gladly listen to a story about it, but not want to get on that bus.

Me too. If someone had a tale of how they got on the bus? Sure, I'd listen, but I'd never get on the bus myself.

There's always a silver lining, a happier tomorrow etc. I'm glad you aren't down trodden either. You wouldn't be able to see it, atleast according to this myth.
