Card or cash?

The ability to pay for goods and services in a variety of ways can come in handy at times. Debit cards and credit cards provide the convenience of not carrying large amounts of cash with us wherever we go but do run the risk of card fraud. If we lose our bank card we can cancel it and not lose any money but if a large wad of notes falls out of our pocket then the chances are we will never see it again. Both methods of payment have their pros and cons and their supporters and detractors. So which method do you favour?

Because neither us us are impulse buyers we buy nearly everything on the card and gain frequent flyer points. It works for us.

Credit cards also give added security if something goes wrong with the purchase. The card company will reimburse you and take the matter up with the manufacturer

@ThreeTeddies We have had our bank check once or twice to see if a big payment was legit or not. We were pretty impressed with that.

I still go by cash most of the time is i find cards a bit risky - sometimes it takes time here too - the card readers are not very good here

I use a debit card, because it's more convenient than bringing cash with me.

@LadyDuck in our place there are stores that do not really accept credit cards especially those located in public markets and this is where you buy meat, fish, veggies, fruits.

For expensive items credit cards do have advantages. If the transaction goes wrong for whatever reason the card company will reimburse you for any losses

Using my cards definitely does make things easier. Although I do like having a bit of money on me, I generally tend to use my cards and only carry a small amount of cash.

I only use cash, everywhere I go. We don't even have a card and don't need one. If we don't have the money for something we just can't buy it.

@ThreeTeddies Very true. If we don't have it, we can't possibly spend it.

I used to have 2 credit cards . . But I decided to pay off my balances and cut and discarded the cards. Why? When I had those cards I was a " wildwest cowboy".. Every time I saw something that I liked not necessarily I needed, I grabbed a card and "fired" . . .

We use debit cards for most purchases and credit cards for ordering online and traveling because we've heard they're safer.

Most credit cards will reimburse you for purchases over a certain amount (£100 in the UK) if the transaction goes wrong or you are ripped off

Pretty much everything goes on my debit card, I use the credit card for Christmas because that way if I have returns there is only one card they will go back on and everything is there.

I use a debit card for more expensive purchases and online shopping (rare). I don't use a credit card. I like to keep $20-$30 cash with me for getting a fountain drink, coffee, fast food, etc., if I'm out running errands.

Credit cards have their advantages but (speaking from personal experience) it's very easy to get into financial trouble by over-using one

hi teddy...you are really true...the most convenient is by having a credit card. Here in our country it is really hard to obtain one. you have to submit lots of papers and wait for approval of the bank. I know in your place is different I think its not hard as how hard it is here. Ive been longing to have one just in case for an emergency use but every application failed. I never tried again...i dont feel like applying for one again....
