Happy now, fourwalls? James Dean has transcended from overnight movie sensation to mythical icon. He made just three movies (“East of Eden,” “Rebel Without a Cause,” “Giant”) that electrified a generation and made a lasting impression. James Dean literally lived fast and died young when fatally cracking up his Spyder race car at age 24. “You went too fast to live, too young to die Along came a spider and picked up a rider And took him down the road to eternity” “James Dean” is credited to Don Henley, Glenn Frey, John David Southern and Jackson Browne though it was Browne who basically did the writing. The song appears on the album “On the Border” and was not much of a hit at Billboard #77. “James Dean” gets to the essence of the mythology and fine early Eagles with good guitar work by Bernie Leadon.

I read somewhere that he had an uncredited role as one of the soldiers in the opening of The Day the Earth Stood Still. Have you ever heard that? Oh, good song. And PS -- here's a bonus song for you.
music from Danny Kortchmar's album "Innuendo"

Argh! You ruined my list! I never heard of this song before and had I known it would have been close to the top. Not only is Kortchmar a Linda person but Errol Flynn is my favorite actor. You really are a walking talking musical encyclopedia. Who needs the Library of Congress.

@JohnRoberts -- no, I'm just a dedicated music geek. You know who else Kortchmar is associated with, don't you. (If not, think about it while you do your dirty laundry for the boys of summer.....) BTW, I think Linda sang backup on one of the songs on Innuendo. It's not the best album on earth, but I love "The Ghost of Errol Flynn;" and the title song and "You and What Army" are good, too.

They used to play it on the radio in Colorado Springs all the time back in the 80's. Don't hear it anymore.
