Small Adventure Yesterday

I had this post nearly written and my computer froze on me. Then I went to Bible Study. Before lunch yesterday I was putting some shopping bags in the car and saw a vehicle stopped just around the corner from the roundabout on our street. The driver was cranking the engine. It would not start. I got Bob. By the time we got out there, the hood was up and a lady in long dress was looking at her engine. Bob tried jump starting it, and we gave her more gas from a can we have. It did not help. A man who has a workspace/hobby space just up the hill drove past with his big van and trailer. We had a car conference. He could not help either. My friends called their brother-in-law, who said it had to be something major, the cranking sounded wrong. It was not smooth. This woman was traveling to Canada, and had no local contacts, but our combined efforts got her a towing company, and helped her find a dealership in a town half an hour away. I think I will leave some details for my next post. I will say it felt good to help.

I have found out that the crank censors are the problem, My P.T. just stopped one day when I was in Ms. The Legacy? I parked it and it would not crank again, both was the crank censor. I am learning that is common nowadays.

It feels good to help even when it is only giving moral support and direction.

Yes, we do. That is part of why it is better or more blessed to give than to receive.

@GardenGerty Good that she will be fixed soon. A timing belt can cause a lot of damage. She must have got lucky.

@wolfgirl569 I had one break when I was on the interstate doing 70 miles an hour on the 4th of July four hours from where I lived. It took out the power steering pump and scored a piston. It was before the days of cell phones, we were three miles from a truck stop and I had my 11 year old daughter with me, weather over 100 degrees. We had to wait a long time for a sheriff's car because I would not get in a car with a stranger. This lady had just taken the round about and come around a bend so was going slowly. I think all the damage was the timing belt coming off. I was glad to be there because until Verlyn's wife Sandy came, I was the only other woman there.

@Courtlynn Yes, I am the one who talked about it, and I am glad we could do the part that we did. I also got to meet some other very nice people. It was good all the way around.

A friend of mine rented a car a few years ago, and after stopping somewhere to do some shopping, it wouldn't start again. She called the rental company to send someone out and as it turned out, the problem had something to do with the steering wheel. She had turned the wheels into the curb when she parked, which apparently rendered the starter ineffective. Once the steering column was turned so that the wheels were straight, it started again. Cars are too complicated these days.

I actually have had that problem. Hubby tries to make sure I always park with the wheels straight.

It was really good of you all to try and help her. She must have gotten some more help with the towing of her car and eventually got to Canada.

We helped her get towed, and get to a place to diagnose and fix her car. Canada is about three more full days of driving from here, I believe. She and her kids and dogs had already been on the road for two days.

I didn't realize she was heading to Canada. That's quite a trip to manage on your own. I hope the other kids with her or at least some of them were old enough to be helpful. Maybe not to be able to drive, but just to keep the other kids happy so she would be less stressed out. I meant to say on the other post you said something about a weather thing forecast. So, are you getting one too. We're having our first 'real' snow storm for the season. Everything else we've had thus far was mainly a dusting to remind us what snow is. I don't think there is two inches out there yet, but everything is covered. The wind is also blowing, so possibly the wind blew the snow off the cars and it's deeper than it looks. Have a warm day, there, Heather.

Severe wind and weather is predicted all up and down from the east coast to as far as Colorado. The accumulation was not much, an inch or two, but the temperatures are extremely cold and the wind is very rough. Further North, say in Kansas City, it was bad even last Wednesday. The Aldi trucks could not get out of the warehouse to bring food to the stores. Or so my cashier said. Her kids are extremely well behaved. The handicapped boy is turning thirteen, and she has one older than that.

@GardenGerty We had ice here on Tues and wed. THurs both my husband and myself had early appts so on Wed afternoon I worked on salting the sidewalks little by little so I wouldn't fall again, and then warming up the cars. This is our first 'snow storm' of the season, and if it's still snowing it's not that much.

I would hope someone else would help, but you know, we could not just get in our car and leave or ignore her. It would have been so wrong.

It is. I am glad she had her issues where she did. Her further, correct route would have left her stranded.
