Yawn, another day of no surprises in this new countdown of favorites that have "John" or "Johnny" in the title. Yesterday the series began with my favorite songwriter, and lookie what's here today: a song I used on another countdown. No surprises at all. #9: The Rebel - Johnny Yuma - Johnny Cash I was too young to remember The Rebel, a western series that starred Nick Adams as Johnny Yuma. It ran from 1959 to 1961, and that's about the time I came along. Ask me what I remember about those years and I'll tell you that, if I remember anything, I remember cloth diapers! But I do remember this song very well. Johnny Cash albums were a fixture in my parents' record collection, including some early original pressing Sun albums (that I still have but aren't worth anything in a collector's eye because we played records back then and never thought of things like "out of print" or "collector's item"). This album was one that I loved to play as a child. This song about Johnny Yuma opened side two of the album, if you're interested. (Well, it's the first song on side two even if you're not interested!) A classic "Johnny" song by the classic Johnny!! The Rebel - Johnny Yuma Written by Richard Markowitz and Andrew J. Fenaday Recorded by Johnny Cash From Ring Of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash, 1963 He searched his soul:
lyrics~ (Away, away, away rolled the Rebel, Johnny Yuma.) Johnny Yuma was a rebel. He roamed through the west. That Johnny Yuma, the rebel, He wandered alone...

You can still catch The Rebel. After playing on ME-TV, it now plays on Heroes & Icons for those who get Direct TV.
