Favorite "Country" Songs #8 - "West Country Girl"

Damn. I am definitely on a roll today, if I do say so myself! I am counting down my favorite songs with "Town," "City," "State," and "Country" in the title, this being the "Country" portion of today's discussion. We are at #8: "West Country Girl" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Unless you listen to a lot of alternative music, or just appreciate great songwriting, you might not be familiar with Australian band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. 1997's The Boatman's Call was the Bad Seeds' tenth studio album, and unlike anything previously done in the band's post punk career. Stripped down, moody, and introspective, it is one of the group's most critically acclaimed records. At one time, Nick Cave was involved in an intense romantic relationship with British vocalist PJ Harvey. "West Country Girl" is Cave's take on that time spent with her, reminiscing about his former lover. It wasn't released as a single, it's a bit somber and intense for hit song material, but damn, is it great! If I had been with PJ Harvey, I'd probably be a bit reminiscent as well. But there's just no way that I could have written anything nearly as great as this. (Info verified by Wikipedia)
