Do you like salads?

In Summer it's often too hot to eat something heavy. That's when I'll make one of my world-famous salads with pinto beans, hearts of palm, tomatoes, some kind of lettuce (maybe), tuna, and Marie's blue cheese dressing. But even in Winter, I sometimes have a craving for a salad. Maybe I've been eating too much in the way of "heavy" foods, like beef stew, or ravioli, or Thai chicken, or Indian curry. Last night, I had a taste for salad, so I made a simple one: romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, diced Swiss cheese, and (of course) Marie's blue cheese dressing. It did the job, and I slept like a baby. Do you sometimes crave salads? What are your favorite kinds?

Yes but it is hard to find anything fresh in the winter. I love a good Cobb salad.

@TheHorse The combination of all the ingredients, the avocado, the tomatoes, bacon, blue cheese, lettuce chicken, anything you want I guess. Cobb salad was created at the Brown Derby Restaurant in Hollywood.

We eat salad most nights during the week, I make up up with lettuce, Broccoli, cucumbers, dried cranberries, almonds, croutons and I love Kens Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette. Allergic to tomatoes so none of those.

Funny that I thought of cranberries as I was writing. I like them but rarely buy them.

@cintol I should use them more often. They go well with blue cheese.

Anytime is a good time for salads. I like chef's salads the best. As far as I can tell, any salad with a bunch of ingredients qualifies as a chef's salad.

That's my thought as well. For some reason lots of ham comes to mind.

@xander6464 For awhile, many of our local grocery stores featured big "table" where you could make your own salad. It was a "chef salad extravaganza." But I see fewer of them now.

I'll be eating salads for lunch most days during the week in the upcoming weeks. I'll grill marinated chicken and have it over romaine lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, and radishes. Extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar will be the dressing. Yum!

@NJChicaa, I love that strips of grilled chicken over romaine lettuce. I had tried that only that I did not put radish but instead some pineapple bits.

I've read that salads (especially those involving lettuce) are mostly water.

@TheHorse It's true. I can't eat much salad because my body doesn't tolerate it. I can't tolerate fruits and raw veggies. This worries me because I don't get vitamins. I am very thin.

I'm not much for raw veggies but I do love a good salsa with chips, that's close enough to salad for me. But there's always tuna, chicken or egg salad, those I really like.

I love a tossed salad any time of the year. I love it loaded with cherry tomatoes, red onion, black olives, shredded carrots, beets, sunflower seeds and topped with Marie's blue cheese dressing. Lots of times I'll throw grilled chicken in it

Your salad sounds yummy. My favorite is raw spinach, avocado, walnuts, tomatoes, homemade croutons, a little cheese, chicken, and my olive oil/raspberry vinegar dressing. Although I do love a good Blue cheese.

We've made a new rice salad for our musicians tonight. It has dried apricots, sultanas and walnuts as well as a few other bits and pieces. Hopefully they'll like it. Americans seem to have really exotic items in their salads - which is a good thing. I guess we're not hugely into salads or we stick to 'simple'.

@JudyEv I suppose it's best just to have stuff there. I always want to eat. Where I struggle is when to order so I can have something to eat between sets.

I think it varies pretty widely here. I'm a hearts of palm "freak," but I bet many Americans have never heard of them. Was your apricot salad a success?

@TheHorse Yes thanks. It was really nice. Chris (the lady) didn't have any dinner but Tony enjoyed his (small) meal. I wish we could get definitive answers as to whether or not they want to eat before the concert.
