We have been a lazy country, We're all about convenience and immediacy
we throw it away and don't think about it again.
We've got to wake up.
LisaStevens ,Pittsfield transfer station
This is from our transfer station.
Plastic has become a big problem. Not only here but everywhere.
Everything is plastic.More of this is being shoved into our landfill.
This is getting worse. Most places discontinued plastic bags
Very simple bring in your own bags. Most people are lazy and cringe when I see from the market a cartful of plastic bags. disgusting.
you can do it.How simple is this.Very.Do your part and bring in your bag.
Let us not be lazy and do our part.

The plastic situation is way beyond bags. The real problem is packaging and plastic beverage containers not to mention any plastic used in cars, TVs, etc.

I rather think the problem has gotten away from us. There is already so much plastic in the environment that getting rid of it will be extremely difficult if not impossible and that's not taking into account the plastic waste which will still be being dumped for years yet

We only use canvas bags for shopping.
About 10 years ago they changed the laws that if you wanted a bag when you checked out you had to pay for it. That made a lot of people think twice.
The other big plastic problem in our world is the tons of plastic from water bottles. We use a brita and then take stainless bottles to eliminate the need for more plastic.
People really need to think twice.

On the positive side, I am seeing lots more people bringing their own... but there is still room for improvement! And if we forget our own bags, we take them to the car in cart or we carry them!!

We have a bin at our supermarket for recycling those plastic bags and I always see people bringing them for recycling. I have a few of those canvas bags which I always bring with me. But not enough is being done for our planet.
We do have recycling pick up once a week in our town. I'm amazed at some of the things that are made with recycled plastic.

@Marilynda1225 we have recycling pick up here as well but sadly not enough can be recycled when it comes to plastic. The bottles have to have a 1 or a 2 in the triangle at the bottom of the container AND they have to have a neck smaller then the rest of the container. So no peanut butter jars, medicine containers from the pharmacy, no parmesan cheese containers or ricotta cheese containers or yogurt containers etc

It's the manufacturing end that has to do something about reducing plastic. It's been proven that plastic bags are another profit area for markets. I see people buy them all the time.

@amadeo our supermarkets charge a small fee for bags so I hoard every spare bag I get and keep at least one in my coat pocket at all times

I have 6 bags that I take with every Thursday when I go shopping.
By the way most people don't realize they should wash the bags every week!

@GreatMartin hmm those are all in their own bags though inside my canvas bags. Doesn't seem like the bag would get contaminated easily from them?

The say it is all biodegradable, liars. Even when it breaks down it still suffocates the earth like no other. I keep telling them hemp is the way but no one listens to me.

@amadeo Screw those people. They not going to listen. Never seen a administration not listen to the people like this one. In fact, pretty sure they do things just to spite most of us. Hey I am punk rock but I have a reason. These people have no reason and do not even know what they are mad at. Its disturbing as hell.

Our grocery stores don't supply bags any more. I you want one you have to pay for it or you can get a free cardboard box from binful which is near the door.
