Even when the whole of US freezes the Niagara Falls, falls alhough one can see it frozen. Niagara Falls in a frozen state is a sight to see but I will never be there again as I have been there twice already in normal conditions. Here is a video where attempts are made to climb the frozen Niagara Falls

I just read that Niagara Falls were overrated. I have never been there, but I have been twice to the Iguazú Falls, the biggest in the world. They were awesome.

I was quite impressed with the Falls specially from the Canadian side. We got to see them in the night with psychedelic lighting

@marguicha Interesting did not know that. I personally say nature is never overrated but we all do love our bragging rights. I could care less my state has a hard time having the littlest river let alone anything like those falls. I am jealous.

Last winter when we visited the falls on the US side were frozen. Ours on the Canadian side are much larger and shaped like a horseshoe, so they are harder to freeze, but they did also. Even the river below with the rapids was frozen.

I have been to both. We had that maid of the mist experience on the US side and behind the falls when we were in Canada

@allknowing We really enjoyed the walk behind the falls more then any other attraction there. Of course it was closed last year when we went to see the ice. One thing we did notice though, because of the extreme cold temperatures, they did not want you walking anywhere. And of course you usually have to walk to get to your parking lot/car. We found shuttles everywhere, which was nice.

Been there when the waters were still frozen but i guess the amount of water that flows through there prevents it from really freeze in totality. It was really chilly when we were there despite its at the start of spring when I went there.

I missed that view The force of water I suppose does not let it freeze.

Its quite simple really but great question motion is energy and energy creates heat. Why it never freezes. Still cold as hell if one wants to take that ride. No Thank You.

@allknowing Indeed why hydro energy is a thing. Niagara Falls is one of the reason scientists came to that conclusion.

A water fall in a garden is a soothing experience, specially when one strolls around in the garden.

That is what I wonder sometimes. People from the US do not see what we tourists see.
