hello people... it's been a while

I had all kinds of intentions for posting every single day in December, but that didn't work out. That was a very, very busy month for me and I didn't end up here much at all. I've been in touch with a couple of you, so at least people knew I was alive.
Our holidays were nice, even though they were hectic. Money felt tighter this year, but I think that's because this was the first year that we had all of the kids for almost the entire year, and I didn't have as much set aside or prepurchased for Christmas as I usually do. We still had fun and had some special times together, and that's the important part... right?
I'm embarrassed to say that some of my holiday decorations are still up, but they are all coming down this weekend since all of the kids will be home to help out (they have a four day weekend). It's hard to put everything away because then it feels bleak and stripped down, so I'm trying to think of what kind of decorations to replace them with for now. I don't think I have very many Valentine's decorations... maybe the kids can make something.
I hope to hear from you all soon and get caught up.

Welcome back. I was just thinking of you the other day and noticed you hadn't been around. Glad to hear you had a good Christmas with your family. Nice picture of you.

I go through periods of where I'm on here a lot, and then I'm not for a month or two. It just depends on my current pace of life.

That's a cute idea, especially if you happened to have a white tree. Now I wish I had thought of that and snagged a white one when they went on clearance.

My rule of thumb is usually that everything stays up until Epiphany (Jan. 6th), but I'm a bit behind on all that this year.

Money felt tighter because all the prices went up. I am telling you we need to watch this stuff before we all on Skid row. I glad you at least enjoyed the holidays. Its always more work than we would like. Momma needs a spa day.

Not only did the prices go up, but the grocery shelves are a lot barer right now. I'm lucky that we're not one of the families who is severely affected by the government shut down, and I'm worried about them. It's making me look at my pantry more seriously and thinking about what I need to have on hand.

We still have so many sweets in the house from the holidays! 
The stollen from Dresden that I gave someone for Christmas just got opened today and enjoyed for breakfast, but I still have 2 kirsch cakes and a plum pudding that I need to use/consume.

I'm sorry it was hectic, but glad that you all still had fun and made memories together.
We still have our tree, and the lights on it, up, probably will the rest of the month.
