The disappearing coffee

Our dining table is a square and can comfortably seat two people each side. Vince likes to cook for guests and a square table gives more room for the various dishes he prepares. Mostly we let guests help themselves to what they want.
When we first got the table the problem was that it was difficult for people to access the dishes easily. Passing the dishes around could be difficult if the dishes were heavy or hot. We picked up a circular piece of timber at an auction house. These had been used as tables in cafes. We painted it white, added a turntable affair under it and now it’s a lazy Susan. It can be rotated so that each dish ends up in front of the person needing it.
However while we were having breakfast with our concert guests on Sunday I put a coffee on the table, went to get something and came back to find it had disappeared. I thought I was going silly and couldn’t work out what happened to it. However I’d put it on the turntable part and it was now at the opposite side to where I was. Of course, the problem was easily fixed and I was able to repossess my coffee. Do you sometimes find it hard to work out what’s going on?

We only get to use the lazy Susan when we eat at a Chinese Lauriat restaurant during family reunions, one time I chased a dish with my fork cause some drunk relative turned it to help himself without looking those restaurant tables are larger, round and could sit a lot. You are very creative with that square table.

@allknowing It's a pity it has to be white and doesn't match the table.

We have a long rectangular dining table.
We can seat 16 at it when all of the leaves are in it.
And when that happens, more often then not, serving bowls are running low, or are empty long before they make it back to my end of the table.
I don't mind, as I always sit on the end closest to the kitchen for that very reason.

Yep, I sit nearest the kitchen so I can keep everyone refilled. The last few Christmases though, we've used our dining room table as the buffet table and we sit at a large table in the living room.

We have a beautiful mahogany inlaid table that is rectangular and comes with three inserts to extend the table to fit a large gathering. When we have a huge crowd, I fill the plates in the kitchen and place them at each table setting. Otherwise, the servings are passed around the table. I sit at one end of the head of the table, closest to the swinging door to the kitchen, so I can attend to anything, quickly.

@JudyEv That would work, too. Sometimes we let the kids sit at the island in our kitchen and if we eat outdoors, we use the table on our deck and set up card tables. Our guests don't seem to care how the setup goes. I think we worry more about arrangements for their comfort than necessary. After all my years of entertaining, including huge faculty parties in 3 houses, I haven't had one complaint.

@snowy22315 Men are always like this but I thought most women were a bit better at keeping track of things.

If it is something that happens suddenly and really quickly yes, it takes me a while to catch on.

@JudyEv like the time I put a black pen on my dark brown table and for the life of me there was no pen until light from the window hit it directly and there it was right where i left it

My friend was just teling me that last week her parents were staying, and one tea-time they had a large pot of jam on the table. She was sure they didn't eat it all but since then she hasn't been able to find it anywhere, in the fridge or kitchen cupboards. It's still a mystery - maybe it'll turn up under the sofa or something in a week or two!

Great idea with that turntable.
Are those placemats made with Vince's photos?

That is funny. That could be where you set your cup often without thinking about it.

That's true. And usually the turntable doesn't get moved because there is just Vin and I.
