Favorite "Town" Songs #6 - "Running Town"

Whatever "it" is, some bands definitely had it. I am counting down my favorite songs with "Town," "City," "State," and "Country" in the title, and this is the "Town" portion of today's discussion. We are at #6: "Running Town" by Siouxsie and the Banshees. Remember the 80's alternative band, We've Got a Fuzzbox and We're Going to Use It!!? Well, I've got a Siouxsie and the Banshees album, and I'm going to use it. Every single chance that I get! It's kind of hard to sit here and say that the Banshees' 1984 album, Hyaena, is one of their absolute best, simply because the band put out 11 studio albums, and basically, I consider eight of them to be "one of their absolute best." But holy crap, is Hyaena a great record! It's the only Siouxsie and the Banshees studio album featuring The Cure's Robert Smith as the band's guitarist, and, as such, it's bloody brilliant! "Running Town" was not released as a single, but it ain't just filler, either. This is a rollicking good time, full of some fun piano (played, apparently, by Smith, who was also credited with keyboard duties on the album) backing Siouxsie's lovely vocals. There is no understating the amount of influence that Siouxsie and the Banshees had on alternative music. I'm talking a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-worthy career. And with The Cure getting in this year, maybe that door will open for other deserving alternative bands, such as Depeche Mode, New Order, Echo and the Bunnymen, and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
