Heading out for my lunch time walk....

I am on the verge up quitting my job so its time time go for my walk. I need my job so I have to go somewhere and take some deep breaths and refocus. I am only one person and the work that is being piled on now and the deadlines they are requesting is just ridiculous and need impossible. I am afraid if it keeps up this way I will end up having another heart attack. If I say it is too much they would happily get rid of me and replace me with somebody younger because they are all about getting young blood in here now. Have you ever wanted to quit your job? How did you handle it?

Working in such a stressful environment is indeed not good for your heart. Since you aren't in a position to quit, going for a walk sounds like a good idea. Maybe you should think about looking for another job?

Jobs are hard to come by here and it is hard to walk away from a job I've had for 32 years.

@Happy2BeMe Yes I have many times and people have said make sure you have another job waiting for you so you can quit that job. I quit jobs because they were really bad.

Same here. I actually wanted to get a job first before I quit, but I couldn't wait any longer too. I was fortunate as every time after I quit a job, I managed to find another new job before my last day in the previous job. I actually didn't feel good to look for a new job while I was still working and it wasn't easy for me to go for job interview too.

Yes, this happened to me before I wanted to quit my previous jobs. I couldn't handle it as I hated the feeling of dragging my feet to work every morning, and sometimes I even hoped something bad happened to me so that I didn't need to go to work. I didn't like it when I wasn't feeling happy at work, and I just quit. I decided I wanted to treat myself better and I deserved a better work life. I always proved that my decisions made (to quit those previous jobs) were right, I was always happier after I quit.

@Happy2BeMe 32 years? It's good that you have found a job which you can stay for so long. If you think you can still stay and there aren't many other better jobs, then I think it's good that you learned to take a walk, deep breaths and then return to the job. Though I am not a job hopper, I think the longest job I have worked for was 5 years, or perhaps 8 years as a stay-at-home mom + freelance programmer now. Wish you all the best in your job. Though it may be difficult, I think you can still find gems out of it.

Yes, usually when I wanted to quit my job, I ended up doing it, and regretting it down the road. Your job has been bad for quite some time though, it wouldn't hurt you at all to put some feelers out..There is bad, and then there is life and health threatening. It isn't worth it. Can't your fiance help you for awhile?

That is frustrating. I would keep your eye out for better opportunities but dont quit without a back up plan. I was super unhappy at my last job so I looked and luckily found my current one in the nick of time!

I am so sorry that you have to endure that stress. I really hope that a better opportunity comes up and you are able to get away from that place. No job is worth your health but I do know you are paying for the finishing touches of your new home.

@Happy2BeMe I know, but it's just a shame that you can't. It's not fair all the changes that are going on at your company, and the pressure that is put on you.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That's the problem. The bosses son is trading to take over and I am really not sure if I could work for him.

I wanted to quit my job so many times, but held on until I was financially secure enough to do that. Some jobs, though, really are intolerable. Could you find another job before you quit?

Please at least look for another job, because hearing that you're afraid that you'll end up with another heart attack scares me. I / we don't want to lose you, especially from stress at a job.
