Saddened and Shocked

My nephew passed away last week. He was 40 years old and has an almost 3 year old daughter. I haven't heard any autopsy results as yet. I'm a tad suspicious as my sister (his mother) said his face turned blue just before he dropped dead, then figured it was a heart attack. Face turning blue signals asphyxiation to me, not heart attack. Michael was born 3 months premature at just over 1 pound. He had a collapsed lung. His parents divorced when he was 4 years old. He was a difficult child, probably because of that. As an adult he got in bar fights, went to rehab, continued to drink, smoked like a chimney, smoked marijuana, and was out of shape. It's sad because he got his PGA Certificate and could have been out on the golf tours with the likes of Tiger Woods. But he chose a life of partying instead. This has gotten me back on the treadmill. With heart disease on my dad's side of the family, I don't want to be next. It's time to live a healthier lifestyle... way past time.

I am so sorry for your nephew, maybe it was his way of living that caused the heart attack.

If it was a heart attack. His face turning blue does not indicate a heart attack to me.

So sorry to hear that. We have history of heart disease and I have gone to the hospital due to chest pains but I knew they were due to fibromyalgia, which the doctor confirmed. But I am overweight and am back working hard to get down to my ideal weight for my age and height.

@patgalca That is great. It runs in my family too. Generics played a big part in my heart attack.

@patgalca That is so sad and not fair at all. When I had my heart attack and surgery I was so surprised at the amount of people with heart trouble who lived a healthy lifestyle and still had heart attacks and open heart surgery.

@patgalca When my kids were growing up there was a very bad habit of other so called friends spiking the other one´s drinks with stuff you know the prohibited stuff. It just so happened that I suspected it when the eldest became quite ill and I did not hesitate to call the Doctor and he said I was right and he gave him an injection of I don´t know what and it did the trick. Whatever it was they put in there laid him flat out for a day and I thought what sort of friends do you call those? So it was very clear to me that this Doctor had seen a lot of the same kind of thing going on but it never gets talked about. I can tell you I was more than a bit scared about it all. For a time I dreaded them going out that door to have so called fun of a weekend and you know they never listen if you try to tell them or warn them of anything.

@tammys85 I was okay until I talked to my sister last night. It's so sad and so complicated and bizarre. Now I am frantically trying to find someone to get me to the memorial as my husband doesn't think he can get off work because 2 guys are on vacation, my daughter is working too. I will be terribly heartbroken if I can't make it there. It's about an hour and a half away.

I shouldn't let my weight get this high to begin with, or get so lazy. However way you look at it. But with chronic pain and chronic fatigue I find this difficult and am not finding the high factor to it.

I am so sorry. There can be all kinds of things that brought this on from his lifestyle to his birth condition. Yes, we all should be taking care of our health.

I'm sorry for what happened and I wish to extend my sincerest condolences. Is it possible that he had a natural weakness that was aggravated by his life style? Until results are out we can only guess.

I doubt he has seen a doctor in awhile so it's anybody's guess at this point.

My sister has gone on a month long trip but at his memorial I got the feeling that he might have taken something. They just kept stressing that he was having it rough going in life.

Its never too late to get in shape, no matter the age. I'm sorry to hear of your nephew but all the drinking and smoking couldn't have helped him. Good luck with your goal.
