Favorite "City" Songs #6 - "Fool for the City"

"I'm just a homesick man." (Okay, not really. I once again live in Denver, the only place I've ever lived where I felt truly comfortable. But this guy certainly is!) I am counting down my favorite songs with "Town," "City," "State," and "Country" in the title. This is the "City" edition, and we are at #6: "Fool for the City" by Foghat. Believe it or not, there was a time, in my youth, when I just assumed that Foghat was from the Midwest, as American as baseball, apple pie, and Cheap Trick. I really was quite shocked when I learned that the band is actually from England. You see what you get when you fail to do a little research! "Fool for the City" is the title track from Foghat's 1975 album, their first platinum record, made so on the strength of that song and the classic hit, "Slow Ride." Released as a single the next year, "Fool for the City" reached #45 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart (odd, considering that it's not really a "pop" song, rather, a fantastic piece of rock music. But record sales are record sales, I guess.) If you really want to hear a smoking hot version of the tune, check out the version found on the album Foghat Live! I'm definitely a fool for my city! It's definitely up there. Of course, the greatest album cover ever is the original cover for Smell the Glove!

They were huge in the 70's. Still get played on the radio here. Not too sure about over there, of course.

I wonder if a Glenn Frey song will make this list...

Well, that was a tough one. My love of Miami Vice (greatest 80's TV show!) should have been enough alone, but it was one of the final cuts. Hard to do.

Not a top-40 hit but I liked the song! And love their overplayed song "Slow Ride" a still played FM radio staple. Yes Foghat played some terrific "boogie-rock."

@teamfreak16 Very good! Thanks for the laugh. In Elaine's defense it is a song you can groove to
