I Still Have a Heart

Today was my six month pace maker check and visit with my heart doctor. I go every six months and in-between visits, I sent a reading from home by a fancy dancy machine he gave me. This is my third pacemaker since 2000 and so far this one is staying strong and not wearing out fast. My dependency is usually 87% but today showed me at 57%. I was thrilled. I asked him about the risk of having weight loss surgery and if I can and he said do not do it. I got a huge lecture and he also told me, bless his heart, I'm not obese and just overweight so I can lose 30 pounds without the surgery and he can help guide me. Surprisingly, he said the keto diet is a good diet to lose on but recommends from there adding back some other foods one enjoys in moderation so not feel so deprived. I mentioned I finally got into an arthritis pool class beginning next week and he was thrilled I'm going. I love getting good news about one of my health issues. I have quite a bit going on but I'm still ticking and almost 60. What is one of your favorite recipes that is low in sugary carbs and easy?

I buy sugar free cake mixes and brownie mixs and both taste really good.

@jstory07 I bought sugar free cookies at walmart one time not realizing they were sugar free. I ate them walking around as I was badly in need of a snack. I got so sick and later on I looked up online and it said some diabetic ingredients if you eat too much can make you sick. I cant remember the ingredient name for sure something like maltodextrin.

@shaggin I won't eat or drink anything with Splenda and those type of artificial sweeteners. Stevia and monk fruit sweetener are more natural.

I'll have to try them. I'm using Stevia more and more and getting used to the taste.

I haven't quite given up on sugar and carbs yet, so I don't really have a favorite recipe in that regards. Glad to hear your checkup went well. We're all rooting for you to succeed in your upcoming weight-loss journey! You can do it!

@moffittjc I was so proud of myself yesterday. I met up with my friend from Coos Bay. We chose a half way point to each drive and we walked around Cabella's find bargains then went to Elmer's to eat. I got the fish and chips but the lighter fair and only half a 1/3 of my coleslaw even though I wanted it all and only four french fries. That was all I ate for the day until 7 pm last night and ate a light Greek yogurt with walnuts. I need to be eating breakfast but it's hard in the mornings so working on that. Only coffee so far this morning.

A friend of mine lost 80 pounds I think it was on the the keto diet. I am a vegetarian so that isn't a diet I could do. I thankfully have always been small but for my own health I really need to exercise more. 30 pounds over weight is definitely doable without surgery. I know three people who had the surgery. I think that really is a last resort before dying before you go to that. Is that photo of you recent in your avatar? If you I am shocked you are close to 60 you look amazing!

@noni1959 wow amazing! I thought by your picture it must have been from 20 years ago if you are 60. Unfortunately I look older then I am. It was fun as a teen but at 35 it isn't so fun anymore.

@shaggin I looked older as a teen and surprised I don't look older than I am. I think somedays I do. Loss of sleep, stress and depending on my hair, I think will add the age on me.

Thank you for the nice compliment. Yes, it's recent. I have some days I look my age. I think stress shows on my face and ages me. I am an emotional or bored eater so have to combat that.

That is very good news. We live out of town and I rarely buy foods that are bad for us. If they are not in the fridge or pantry, then I can't eat them. It works for me. I don't cook a lot so I can't really help you.

It's what I need to do. It's a bit hard living with my youngest daughter and family but soon I'll be in my cabin and won't be as tempted.

Sound like you have a wonderful doctor. If I had any recipes like that I would share them but I don't.

@noni1959 ground turkey is good to make turkey jerky with, and I know if you make it yourself it can be good for you.

@hillhjill I'll have to check out how to do that. I use it for salad topping, in tacos, make burgers, put in zucchini and other things.

I am glad you are fine. Your doctor is good. As far as nutrition is concerned, I think you should look for advice from a nutritionist.

I don't like I used to but still like something occasionally. I have switched to raw for my coffee and cut down and cut out a lot of other types of treats.

Thank you. I get anxious every time I go in. I hate having that magnet put on my pacer and they speed it up and manipulate it.
