Depression is a bruise

Depression is like a bruise that never goes away. A bruise in your mind. You just gotta be careful not to touch it where it hurts. It never goes away though. -Jeffery Eugenides This is a quote that resonates so deeply with me; especially today. I touched the bruise last night and now it hurts so bad. People always ask "are you okay" but what they really mean is "are you about to kill yourself" well, no I'm not. You don't have to stop your life to figure out how to help me. But am I okay; no. I'm not okay. Okay means "proceeding normally; correct; satisfactory" There is nothing normal, correct or satisfactory about this. But I will go home, I will make dinner, I will ask my daughter about her day and listen with smiles and interaction. I will feed the cats and play with the bird. I will dote on my husband and watch TV with him. Then I will go to bed and after he falls asleep I will cry for hours until I am finally able to fall asleep. I am not okay.

@fivecandles I'm still in a depression, sometimes I think I will never get out of it.

@Nevena83 I understand. My husband says that my "normal" or "baseline" is a lot lower that everyone else's . I think he's right.

I am sorry to know that you have that problem. My son is also having the same dilemma as yours and there are times we could not understand him. We just adjust to him and try to be as nice and understanding as we can be. Continous talk with him and constant reminder how we care anout him and close monitoring.

@fivecandles Thanks for that. It is hard for us but since we are aware of his condition we try our best to show to him that we care.

It sounds like your son is lucky to have parents who care and love him. Keep it up!

That's an interesting way to put it. Just take it one day at a time and reach out to somebody.

It's a hard thing to deal with. Do you have times of the year that are worse?
23 Jan 19
I can relate to you and yes i don't think it ever goes away and i think the reason for that is because all the things that have happened to us to cause the depression will never go away. We cant erase the past :/

I am sorry , I sort of wonder about myself sometimes. There is a particular area of my life where I feel like I totally failed.

Sometimes in our failures we can find positivity. Lessons to apply to the future, or maybe an inspiration to others?

I am so sorry. Prayers. Is there someone you can talk to about this? A minister or doctor or a friend you can trust?

I have depression because of my sickness, but I did not mind the effects on me. There are times that I think of worse ways to end the misery then, later on, I get back on my feet. Maybe I am not that weak.

Seems like many of us can relate, sadly. Sounds like you know what you need to do. Take care of yourself.
