Today is our younger son’s birthday. As usual, I woke in the middle of the night thinking about his birth. The day he was born I had spent the morning getting my hair done, went to a party at a friend’s house in the afternoon, and to dinner and a movie with other friends. The latter was pregnant, too, and her older son went to nursery school with ours. She offered to watch my older son when it was time for me to give birth. Who knew that shortly after returning home I’d be dropping my son off at her house after midnight? My husband was such a nervous wreck, that he drove past our friend’s house. He wound up turning his car around in our obstetrician’s driveway! Our son was born shortly after our admittance to the hospital. ~Photo is of one of his favorite gifts - so far~ Do you have any funny birth or birthday experiences? Now I’m heading back to bed. See you in a few hours.

When I went into labor for my youngest, my then husband grabbed clothes pins, whisky and filled a bowl with hot water and ran to the car to put them in. I asked him what in the world and he said in case we didn't make it he can deliver. He runs to the car and starts to back out and then remembered me. It was my third child so you would think he would have been a bit better then he was when he passed out at the birth of my son. My first born, he got very woozy and had to be taken out to a bed and my sister came in while I gave birth to her.

Some really go to pieces don't they? You have to feel sorry for him. But how did he think he could carry hot water in the car without filling it?

That is hilarious! I suppose he should have been used to it. For my first, my husband made me wait while he took a shower, walked the dog, and changed the light bulb over the front door. I carried my hospital bag to the car myself. One block from the hospital , he filled the car with gas as I was clawing the console. MEN!

Happy birthday to your son. My son came in such a hurry that we had to keep him in the incubator or whatever they call it for almost 15 days..

Happy Birthday to your son. My younger son born on a quick way than expected. The delivery date was far and the day I reached my native place for delivery, on our way to home, we visited hospital just for a check up. To our surprise, after checking u, the doctor said her delivery pain is already started. It was in April and my date was in May. I delivered him in a normal way after some hours of getting admitted. Still it is a surprise for me and I tease him, he has no patience to stay in womb for the whole term.

@DianneN Yes of course, 'in the right place at the right time'. It is really shocking if I think on the other way. I travelled two days in train and on reaching the third day to my destination everything happened.

Happy Birthday to your son. I drove and rushed my wife twice to the hospital when she was about to give birth to our eldest son, the first time we were sent home cause the cm was still blah blah was not big enough. The second time was the same, so I asked the hospital if it were possible to leave her there, I would pay for the room till she gives birth to spare me the nervousness but I was refused and sent home again the third time she said she was giving birth but I refused to drive, I would die from nervousness lol and let the family driver do it ( we had one that time for my mother) she labored and gave birth on the third time.

@DianneN the second time I overheard somebody said something like the hospital is not like a hotel where you can just book a room, you need an order to be admitted and confined I hated it when the hospital is just near, I was stepping hard at the gas pedal but the road seem to be endless while I keptlooking at the mirror to my wife at the back seat and seems in pain

I know nothing about my birth, but my mom called a taxi to go to the hospital for a check up while she was expecting my brother. He told the taxi to wait for her. The taxi driver looked at her and said "are you kidding, they are keeping you for sure". Well he was right, she gave birth to my brother that same day.

@DianneN Gosh the sugar! But now I’m craving for a tinier version of that. Oh I didn’t know chocolate was not allowed for vegans. I think I need to learn about that.

@flapiz I discussed the sugar in that, but my son can't resist. Yes, milk chocolate has dairy in it, and that's a no no, because dairy comes from animals. She's a strict vegan.

Dianne, you know better than to ask me this question! I ALWAYS have a story to tell:) When I was pregnant for my daughter, we were shocked when my water broke six weeks early! We dropped Chad(2yrs old)off at Bruce's sister's home, then headed to the ER. Twenty hours later, I still hadn't given birth to our baby! In the morning, I was sobbing. My doctor asked, 'Are you in pain?' 'NO! I'm not!' I blurted out. 'Then, why are you crying?' he inquired. 'I just want to have this baby!' I was sick of laying on a stupid roller bed, couldn't even get up to use the bathroom, for 20 hrs!

I have 5 biological kids and all of them were born not in hospital but in our house through the traditional midwives (this is now prohibited in my country). Our youngest was supposed to be born in hospital and in fact I brought my wife. But in hospital she doesn't feel any labor for two days. I asked permission if I can ring back my wife home. The doctor won't allowed it, I persisted and they let me sign a waiver. In short, when my wife was home, she gave birthed to our youngest child.

Wow! I didn't know you had five children and all born at home! My grandson was born at home in a pool of water set up in my older son's living room. A midwife helped and my son helped with the delivery. Things have changed since my day.

When I wake up to pee in the urinal, my hubby woke to see my urine. When he saw that it has dome blood, he suddenly took the prepared bag in case I would be giving birth already. Then he gave me a dress to change and changed my panty. Then, he suddenly put on his pants and shirt and shoes. He was like a lightning in doing those things and taking me to the car.

With my middle daughter's birth - my parents were coming over to pick up my 2 year old daughter because we were having a baby any day. I spent the day cooking fried chicken, and making potato salad and making our apartment nice and clean. My back had been hurting off and on all day and I happened to mention it to my neighbor. She told me she thought I was having back labor. I called the doctor and he said go to the hospital. I had my daughter about a half hour later. Right after she was born my parents and brother arrived and got to see her mess and all.

Is that a really chocolate? I have not seen such a big pile of chocolate sold in the supermarket or hypermarket. So far I have two memory about birthday celebrations. The first one is when I was about four or five years old. My mum invited some relatives to the house for a buffet dinner. I remembered that I did not eat anything and just sat on a sofa. I am not angry but did not feel hungry at that time. I did not understand what is birthday and why it is so important. My aunty lastly took some food and forced me to eat. The second experience is I almost cry as my parents told me that I could not cried anymore when I start my primary one in next year January. I was six at that time and my birthday is the second of the calender month. I admit that I always cry when I was in my kindergarten time. I just wished that I could stay at home and be homeschooling. Yet, I cried in the first day of my primary one.

Yes, that's a real candy bar, but it has to be ordered special online. Stores don't carry that size. So sorry you had such terrible birthday memories. Most children cry on their first day of school. I was a teacher or 6 year olds and every year there would be a few who cried, but quickly adjusted.

@DianneN I think that the customized made chocolate will not inexpensive. That is an experience neither it is sad or happy but thinking back now is a funny thing. Why I need to cry for going to school? Probably I miss home. However, I do not have the practise to celebrate birthday anymore but I do miss those old moment that my special day is being recognized and appreciate.
