“Rawhide” ranks among the best western TV series running eight seasons (1959-65). The adventures of a cattle drive along the Sedalia Trail brought initial fame to Clint Eastwood as young ramrod Rowdy Yates. The memorable theme song was by Dimitri Tiomkin (music) and Ned Washington (lyrics). Tiomkin (22 Oscar nominations, 4 wins) and Washington (11 Oscar nominations, 1 win) previously collaborated on “High Noon (Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darling).” The song was sung by the booming voice of the legendary Frankie Laine Who knew the Blues Brothers’ “Mission from God” included “Rolling, rolling, rolling, keep them dogies movin’, rawhide.” Joliet Jake (John Belushi) and Elwood (Dan Aykroyd) have a gig at a red neck country bar and launch into “Gimme Some Loving” which does not go over. Fortunately there is a protective screen as they are pelted by bottles etc then the power is cut off. Elwood says What to do? and inspiration strikes. He starts singing “Rawhide” and toward the end Jake picks up a bullwhip and cracks it. A fun version of a classic western song.

Ha, I barely remember that show..although I seem to have a very long TV memory. I just remember that Clint Eastwood was Rowdy Yates.

An enjoyable scene in a fun movie. I sometimes still say (when I have to go grocery shopping or something ), "I'm on a mission from God."
