Lots of types of discussions come up on myLot ranging from the serious to the frivolous. Do you get involved in the more serious discussions which come up or do you prefer to interact with those which are easier to reply to?

I've gotten into a few serious debates a long time ago but I won't do that anymore, too many people get really mean if you don't agree with them. Now those that are light hearted or even those simply about what a person is doing all day are much easier to respond to and generally don't generate hostile feelings.

@rebelann Yeah, I get what you mean. Such deep debates must be handled with sensitivity and I don't think myLot is the place for that but those other types you refer to I see as 'chewing gum for the brain'. Maybe I'm on the wrong site.

I don't like getting into debates on here even tho I have had a couple, but sometimes I see someone getting bullied on here and I will end up saying something.

@ThreeTeddies it's more than that, you just have to find it. And if that's what you want to do then go for it lol.

@hillhjill My conscience wouldn't allow me to post banal stuff like that. I like to think I give value for money to those who read my discussions

@hillhjill I'm beginning to realise what myLot is all about. Maybe I should just tell people what I have for breakfast every day

if it's a serious debate about religion or politics then I totally avoid it. with other serious debates we have to be careful coz some people can get really nasty. I prefer the light discussions anyway.

@ThreeTeddies I think when we are face to face we think of the consequences of being nasty. But online people dont have to face the other person and think they can say anything.

@mayka123 Some people seem to think that because they're not face-to-face with someone they can get as nasty as they like. They're probably not like that in real life

@ThreeTeddies If you like serious discussions, why are your posts so short?

@just4him As do I but I do like to become involved in serious discussions

@just4him When I first joined I saw what others were posting and simply followed the crowd. I did try a couple of longer posts but the consensus of opinion from the replies to this discussion seems to favour short, easy-to-interact-with posts probably because a quick read and a simple reply allow people to move on to another post thus maximising their earning opportunities. myLot obviously isn't a site for long, thoughtful, serious stuff

I'm not into confrontation and I know a serious discussion needn't/shouldn't lead to that but it often seems to. So I guess it's mostly lightweight for me.

@ThreeTeddies That's fine with me. I like to try to give 'value for money' so I mostly avoid food posts if it's just a list of what I had for breakfast, not that I mind others doing that. I like to think there is a bit of useful stuff in most of what I post. Or it is at least entertaining. But that's just me.

@JudyEv From some of the replies here I think you are in the majority. myLot doesn't seem to be the place for serious debate. Be prepared to know what I have for breakfast every day from now on!

@ThreeTeddies I guess it is the mood I am in when I go into the post to see what it says. If does not interest me then I go out.

I believe I am encouraged and able to adapt to the conversation that arises, although I prefer to get involved in conversations that contemplate issues where I develop deep thinking and specifically in the topics I dominate.
