Good morning friends! We had a late night and slept late this morning. My husband went out to buy fresh bagels from a place called Brooklyn Bagels. They have the most halfway decent bagels around. We are used to having “real” New York bagels, and these aren’t too bad. I love a bagel with cream cheese, a very thin slice of sweet onion, and a slice of tomato sprinkled with a pinch of salt. My favorite is a sesame seed bagel. My husband likes his with nova lox. How do you like yours?

@DianneN I use a recipe from a book I bought in New York. Bagels are nowhere to be found in this part of Switzerland, I have no choice.

I couldn't eat a bagel. Those long floppy ears and sad looking eyes always get to me. What other breeds do ya'll eat?

Since the breads are awful down here, we mostly have Thomas' English Muffins or multigrain whole wheat. Certain restaurants get breads and rolls delivered from NYC. Those we wolf down.

@UncleJoe my friend had a really funny way of say bagel when we were teens. She asked me one day if I like to eat bagels and I was horrified thinking she means beagels. Took me awhile to figure out what she meant.

@shaggin I used to think a bagel was a kosher hot DOG.

I have not had a bagel in years. Too hard to determine which bagels contain animal-derived L-Cystein, so it is just easier not to eat them.

How does bagel differ from a dough nut or are they the same?

Glad you asked! They are extremely different. A bagel is similar to bread, but much heavier and more dense.

@1hopefulman No. I looked it up online and there is nothing better than bagels from New York. My husband has been to Montreal and just told me there's no comparison. I suppose you love what you are used to eating.

"They have the most halfway decent bagels around" that is too funny. I don't think I've ever heard things phrases that way before. That's good I guess but it's too bad they weren't the best bagels around! My boyfriend went to Dunkin donuts this morning while we were all sleeping and bought bagels and a dozen donuts for all of us. It was a delicious morning.

@DianneN I don’t recall if I have ever had a fresh made one other places. We always just buy them at Walmart or Aldi’s. Nothing too exciting. I did make ones at home once but it’s been years.

@DianneN Now, that sounds like my kind of bagel except I do not like sesame seed ones. We have a bakery called Brooklyn and I love their stuff. I do not get there as much as I once did. I toast my bagels and sometimes put peanut butter on.

Love a good bagel. Mine has to be toasted with lots of veggie cream cheese. The calorie count is so high that I try not to indulge in them often. It is sunny and looks like it will be a good day weather wise. There is a snowstorm in the forecast for Tuesday. Yay us!

I love mine toasted, too, even straight from the bakery. I also rarely eat them due to the huge number of calories. Sometimes I take the middle dough out. Enjoy the good weather while you can! It will be 40 in CT.
