Busy in the Kitchen

Bet you don’t know what these are. I wouldn’t either had I not made them. This is a plate full of uncooked dumplings. Today, for the first time, I am trying my hand at chicken and dumplings. I looked at several recipes and YouTube instructional video and I’m ready. I took something from each recipe that sounded appealing. The flects you see are actually seasoning. It looks like dirt but it’s not. (Well, not much, anyway.) So far I have 12 boneless thighs boiling in a big pot. I don’t know if you’re supposed to but I also mixed in some frozen veggies. One recipe called for a can of Cream of Chicken soup so I’m putting that in too. For good measure I’m throwing in a can of Cream of Mushroom. (I wonder if I should have taken those paper labels off before I put those cans in.) I think the chicken is about done now so it’s time for me to add these dumplings. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Those paper labels soak up a lot of the good tasting stuff in there, so I would leave them on.

Those are cute dumplings. When I make a stew with dumplings I just make up a biscuit dough and when the stew is bubbling, carefully plop spoons of dough onto the stew ingredients.

@UncleJoe That's what matters. You would have had fun cooking with my German grandma.

@MommyOfEli2013 We certainly did. The only reason Becky likes me is for my cooking.

Those flecks do look a bit like dirt. I think I've made some biscuits that looked like that after the dough fell off the counter and I kicked it across the kitchen floor a few times. Of course, having an infestation of ants move into the bowl while mixing makes flecks like that as well.

I always leave the paper labels on all cans for a bit of zest when cooking. Hope the dumplings were good!

For my first attempt @DianneN they turned out surprisingly well. I was pleased that Becky's mom had not complaints or suggestions.

That sorta sounds like a chicken pot pie.. I make my dumplings like I am making biscuits but thinner like spoon bread. drop them in the boiling chicken broth/ chunks of chicken. I do not add any soups. just salt and pepper.

Sounds like they turned out well! I didn't recognize them, probably because I use the long, thin strips for chicken and pastry.
