The Birthplace of Jesus

In Bethlehem, Israel is the Church of the Nativity [traditional birthplace of Jesus]. When we were there, there was a lot of construction going on with some disorganization in the nave of the church. There were many people there that day, so our visit to the place where it was said that Jesus was born was hurried by the guide there. The place, downstairs in a sort of cave, was small and crowded. The actual supposed place of the birth was covered with the reddish layer of what looked like marble, in a star formation. I believe the visit would have been much more pleasurable, and possibly meaningful if it had not been so hurried.
