A Scottish mountain

This photograph shows one of Scotland's most iconic mountains. Situated at the eastern entrance to glencoe it is probably Scotland's most photographed mountain due to the fact that a main road runs very close to it and many thousands of tourists drive by it every year. In my younger years I was a hillwalker and mountain climber and I have climbed this mountain several times. Sadly, poor health forbids me from visiting it again but at least I have many happy memories of my times on this mountain. The photograph is my own.

That is a great photograph. One of my favorite castles lies in Scotland, of course I can't recall the name of it offhand. I occasionally watch a youtuber in Scotland who does bushcraft / survival type videos. Scotland has plenty of terrain for those who love hiking, mountain climbing etc. Plenty of challenges I mean.

@ThreeTeddies There is a set of trails not too far from me. Well, maybe an hour and 15 minutes away. It's called "Stone Mountain" and has about six miles of trails. At one point you can look down at a trail below. You eventually get to that and can look up to see the cliff face. There is even a little community that is preserved within. I mean, no one lives there, but it's preserved. It's probably one of my favorite places. edited: It's technically a park.

@pjmurphy I'll be happy to be your mountain guide - well, to the bottom of the mountain only!

@ThreeTeddies Bottom of the mountain would be okay with me since I have a fear of heights.

We passed that last June on our way up to Fort William to climb Ben Nevis. Beautiful part of the world only spoiled by the fact Jimmy Saville's old house isn't far from that mountain!!

@ThreeTeddies Yeah, it was boarded up when we passed late June and eatly July last year. I remember seeing it on the Louis Theroux program and was surprised to see how close it is to the road in real life. I assumed it was set back in some secluded location.

@WorDazza Saville didn't spend more than 1-2 weekends a year there and, as far as I know, it wasn't involved in his crimes. It came under attack from vandals for a while but it's now in new ownership. Last time I passed that way it was boarded up

@WorDazza As the vandals discovered it's just a stone's throw from the road!

That looks like it would have been quite a hike. At least it's good you've done it and now happy memories of it.

@ThreeTeddies We have both turned 70 now and we find ourselves saying 'I don't actually have to do that if I don't want to'. It's quite liberating in some ways!

Perfectly captured. Looks like a volcano because of its cone shape.

@ThreeTeddies I haven't done it yet, but I want to. Any hill, it wouldn't have to be this mountain.

@DianneN It's 'Buachaille Èite Mòr' -- 'The Big Herdsman of Etive'. 'Herdsman' refers to a goatherd and 'Etive' is the name of a nearby glen. It's known by climbers simply as 'The Buachaille' (pronounced boo-kile)
