For my birthday I was given a biography of a famous lady (now sadly no longer with us) whose work I always enjoyed. The book was really interesting and I enjoyed reading it. Today I offered, on Freegle, a pair of my also-deceased great aunt’s bloomers, which I had found in a trunk. And guess who asked for them and just turned up to collect them? Yes, the author of said book, who it turns out also collects vintage underwear! I love Freegle! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2019.

This is amazing. I donated those of my great grandmother last year, I found them in a trunk in the apartment of my mom.

@Fleura I found some hand made bed sheets, my great grandmother made them with a loom. I am going to use them, surely more than a hundred years old.

There is a long story behind these, but basically they have lain untouched since 1974.

@LadyDuck Wow that's amazing! I have a lot of things of similar vintage, such as hand-stitched pillowcases, but none actually woven at home. I do have quite a collection of hand-made lace doilies and things though!

Well I didn't really want to say, because that would give away the name of the underwear-collector wouldn't it?

@amadeo The person who came to take the vintage underwear was the author of the book. She has also written other books, one of which is due to be made into a film. I thought perhaps she may not want everyone to know that she also collects underwear!

She already came for it, she must live in the area somewhere. I have promised to let her know if I find any other items of interest.

I love Freegle, I have given and received literally hundreds of items since I joined, soon after it started here, back in 2003. I never heard a Freegle song though - thanks!

Something today reminded me of a remarkable coincidence that happened a few years ago. We were on a family holiday on the Midlands canals, having hired a...
