A cure for hiccups?

Is there one? Probably there is but some of those you hear about are quite ludicrous; like standing on your head and drinking a glass of water, or holding your breath for 63 years (that one would certainly cure your hiccups), or rubbing your head and patting your tummy at the same time - I can't do that one when I don't have hiccups! Tell me a few cures for hiccups.

I've always found the drinking water upside down thing pretty effective. But that might be due to being unconscious due to falling over and smacking my head whenever I try!!

@ThreeTeddies But at least the hiccups will have stopped.

@WorDazza Apparently, the theory behind that one is that it distracts your brain from the hiccups to concentrate on a difficult task and, hey presto, the hiccups go away - but then you drown from inhaling a glass of water into your lungs. You pays your money and you takes your choice!

I try to hold my breath. Sometimes this works, but not all the time.

I've heard of a few but never really found one that works. I haven't had hiccups for years.

@pjmurphy Oops, there you go - you've just jinxed yourself. You'll have hiccups tomorrow!

Someone needs to start an argument with the person who has hiccups. We were camping, my Mum had hiccups and my uncle accused her of using his axe. The argument was starting to get serious when he suddenly said 'how's your hiccups?' They'd completely disappeared. Again, I guess it's a distraction thing.

@ThreeTeddies Well, they don't last forever although I have heard of a case somewhere where they did last a very long time.

Funny, I rarely get them but did today. Held my breath and they went away.
