Do you use self checkouts?

When you go your shopping do you use the self checkouts? It seems people either love them or they hate them. I never use them. I prefer to go to a checkout that has a cashier.

I try to use real cashiers to support their jobs. Plus I am also lazy, and I hate typing in the produce. But mainly so as to not replace cashiers.

I figure why should I do all the work? They pay cashiers to do that. If I am doing it all myself then they should be giving me a discount.

I use most of the time when I have only a couple of things and there is a long line at the cashier, that is always the case here.

@Happy2BeMe There are no express cash here, not enough personnel. The best way and the one I prefer is to get the "scan pistol" at the entrance, I scan when I put in the card, I only have to debit my card when I have finished. No need to stop at the cashiers.

I go to the cashier. It helps keep a job going in the store.

We go to the checkouts as we like to think we're helping people keep their jobs.

@JudyEv That won't ever happen on a large scale universally. It might happen in smaller stores possibly, but not overall. I think they showed up more in our town after people spent time oversees and had to use them there. That may happen eventually, but not until the next few generations are long departed from this world and possibly only when there aren't enough workers to do all the different jobs.

I feel the same way. The Wal-Mart here replaced most of their cashiers with self checkouts so they don't have the need to have as many cashiers as they use to.

They can be a real pain, but unless a cashier is free, we go to self checkout every time.

@JohnRoberts they aren't hard to use. And i know all the codes for things like water and bananas and other fruits and veggies etc. The registers just sometimes screw up for no reason to where you have to wait for an employee. Like when a coupon is still good but isnt accepted.

Once you get used to them, they can be quicker than waiting for a chashier.

They area annoying. They are slow and always mess up. I prefer going to the cashier's. Even though I have heard it isn't true I still worry someones job is being replaced by then so I refuse to use them.

I like to go to a real person. They just started having these in Japan a few months ago. So far I tried once and it was kind of scary. I was afraid people would think I was trying to cheat, or that I would actually cheat by making a mistake where to put stuff. Never again. Also, as others have pointed out, people need jobs, and this doesn't help people get jobs.

I prefer to go through a real cashier, always have. However, if I am in a huge rush, and only grabbing one or two items, and the main cashier line ups are super long then I will do self check out. I remember when they first came out with them I used to get so mad trying to figure them out, LoL I would end up calling a real person over that works at the store to help me anyway

I do not like them. I have tried using them when I was in a hurry, and I always manage to "break" them, so that they will not work for me. If they talk to me, I talk back. I had rather wait in a real line, with real cashiers and fellow shoppers. The Wal Mart cashiers tell me that eventually there will be no cashiers. I tell them that eventually I will just shop online, then. It is actually easier.
