Coworkers of mine have been asking me to make meals for them for during the week for years. I've always resisted because I'm not a professional but I am going to be in need of a way to make some extra cash so I finally relented. This morning I got a text from a friend/coworker asking me if I wanted to start this weekend. I said yes and to just tell me what she wanted made. She asked for mason jar salads and chicken fettuccine Alfredo. I can easily do both. I've made most of the salads already and I also made a batch of homemade barbecue ranch dressing which I know for a fact that she loves. She wasn't specific about what she wanted in the salads so I just went with a mix of romaine lettuce and baby spinach, chopped red pepper, chopped carrot, cucumbers, and grape tomatoes. I have chicken breasts seasoned with Emeril's Essence roasting in the oven and I'll dice them up and add them to the salads when they are cool. I've never made chicken fettuccine Alfredo before but I have done regular Alfredo so I think it is just a matter of adding chicken to the sauce. I am going to do that tomorrow morning. Then I'll let her know that everything is ready to be picked up. The ingredients cost me about $30 but I did have a few of them on hand already. I have no idea what to charge. In fact, I don't plan to ask for a specific amount. I'll just let her give me whatever she wants. I want to keep this going and hopefully expand to a few other people in the future so it will be a good thing just to have her happy and telling other coworkers what I did for her.

That is a wonderful idea. I know you love cooking, so should be right up your alley. Hopefully, you'll have a nice side business going. As a former teacher, I know word spreads fast! Good luck!!!!

I figure it is a good way to combine what I enjoy (and am good at) with earning some extra $$. After working my regular job, I REALLY don't want to have to go get a second part-time job.

@NJChicaa I agree. You must be drained after teaching and need time for yourself. Whipping this up should be a breeze for you.

I think you should think of a price yourself. If I were a client of yours, I wouldn't feel good if you told me to pay whatever *I* found appropriate. Why don't you check the menu in a restaurant to see what similar salads cost there? This would be a start to find the right price for your salads.

@NJChicaa If you think that this is a good price, you should mention it to further customers.

I've dealt with this person before--catered parties for her, etc. She usually just gives me a generous amount of money for what I do. If asked for a price, I'd say $50.

That is great. I would think of the ingredients and what you have to get to make the food for them and go by that on what to charge

Well I want to make a profit on this so I'd need to charge more. I won't take less than what the ingredients cost me this time. I'll figure it out eventually but I just want to make her happy so she says good things about what I can do for others.
