Another Day On The Homestead

I went back to bed around 10 am and read myself to sleep. I woke at 12:30 and I fixed us lunch, folded laundry and made things neat. Not clean, just neat. I went out and pulled the new bag of potting soil from under the deck, filled a dozen assorted size flower pots and set them aside. I turned the dogs loose, walked them around the field once and I went to work. Since it was damp out, and possible rain, I used the loppers and not the saw. I finally finished chopping down and chopping up the vines and blackberry bushes. I trimmed low limbs of the pines I will cut down and I took them out to the street to be picked up, I cleaned up all the other limbs I had piled by the driveway. Next I went to work on the bushes across the driveway, I got the lower limbs cut and moved to the street, now I can get to the trunks to cut those down to the ground with the saw. Tony came out to walk just before dark, he got three laps in, me walking two of those with him, we went up to the deck and I planted seed for the big boy tomatoes. Tomorrow I will take a break form working on the homestead, My old body is telling me slow down. How was your Saturday?

We went for two half hour walks. I cleaned the whole house. Fixed three meals and did the dishes. Cleaned the kitchen really good and did laundry. Than we went to Rite Aid and nothing was marked down from Valentines day.

@andriaperry @jstory07 I don't know if you have Grocery Outlet near either of you- discount store. The place used to have discount candy all the time. Now they line up Halloween candy next to Easter and Valentine's Day stuff and none discounted.

@wolfgirl569 Yes you need warm! I agree 100%. My fear of not enough cold is no peaches on the trees and infested with mosquitoes.

@andriaperry Just listen to what your body is trying to tell you. And don't listen to me!! My hands are really unhappy from the bit of pick ax work that I put in last year in the garden. Wow on your gardening season.

Saturday was full of cooking for me. I still have more I want to do though. Too cold and icy to get outside, but I am going to make some potting mix up. I brought all the stuff in so it would thaw. I am going to use toilet paper rolls as seed pots cause they will biodegrade in the soil. I have tons of old seed I am going to try out. I have some seed I saved this year that I will plant as well.

When I get the building here I am going to plant a lot of old seed in the ground and see what comes up. I need Gourd seed so I will be looking for those.

You're lucky that you live in an area where you can start your tomato seeds so early in the year. You'll enjoy a really long growing season. My husband and I just chilled and hung out together at home on Saturday. I got a few things ready for today to take down to our son's place. We're having an indoor picnic at his place-it should be a lot of fun.

If the greenhouse was already up I would be harvesting food year round. Although its does not get and stay super cold here, we do have enough cold to kill tender plants. Usually Feb. is our coldest month but not this year, so far. That sounds fun! Its raining here today.

My day wasn't anywhere near as busy as yours but I did get quite a bit done around the house. It's still too cold here to do anything outside

I made a hat yesterday. I'm hoping to finally get enough products produced and photographed to start an Etsy business. My goal is to be up and running by the end of March...of course, I've set myself deadlines before and then been derailed one more of life's curveballs.

Set it up and each time you get one finished , place it in your store. DO it now because Easter is a good time for hats.
