They think I'm crazy

Because I'm not selling my old house and property in the country. Well, at least not now nor for the next 30 years or so.. If I sell, it would just be like giving my heritage away to the real estate sharks and banks for nothing. Besides, it's going to be my retirement home. They can come and visit me if they wish. They say I'm old. I'm only 56+ mind them! They say I'm wasting what would have been an income investment for this old house. So far, Im working partime at a local cafe/restaurant. With my income, I pay (slowly) for the renovations, refurbishings, plumbing and electrician that updated these fixtures. I also pay for quarterly council rates land tax. Do you agree that things work out the best for us who make the best of how things work out? That's quite a mouthful of a proverb. And eventhough they say I'm crazy, my daring ventures--- with a long-range vision of how I make my decisiions and plannings--- I make them work for me,. And it's very important to me. I don't think it's wrong. Why can't they just respect me and encourage me with my new venture?

Is it your kids or your neighbors or friends that are trying to throw a wrench into what you've decided is best for your life? I just took a peek at your blog and you've done a superb job there. If you got rid of this house, I think many of the memories that you are hoping to find and jot down for your kids and grandkids would be lost with the house. I'm guessing that you're not having to do all the renovations on your own as you mentioned your IT husband in the blog, or is that no more? I'm surprised that you've been on mylot almost as long or longer than me and this is the first that I've run into you here.

Thank you for visiting. And tryng to understand my thoughts. You must be a treasure of a friend to someone out there in Michigan. :-) Yes the house is still there, standing, fully paid. That's a blessing. The work has stopped because they say, 'it won't be sold anyway.' I do have genuine friends who identify with me and have been helpful. You're right, 'if I got rid of this house many of the memories would be lost with the house.' It makes me very sad every time I think about it.

@everwonderwhy so then are you working to update it and sell it? Does that mean something in your financial situation has changed? I thought you didn't want to sell but others were trying to talk you into the idea. Now I'm not so sure I understood as much as I thought.

@MarshaMusselman No, I'm not selling. Just doing some renovations so I can vacation in it every now and then, and live there eventually as a retirement home. And everyone thinks I'm crazy. 'Such crazy, coo-coo idea'.-D

Who are 'they' that don't approve? This seems a very good idea to me. Good for you.

Yes! Who are they to dictate to me, approve or disapprove? Yesterday, the sell-your-house talk a loved one dared again. Another loved one agreed with him and told me about 'giving up memories'. Urgh! -Thank you! With the comments and responses I'm getting, I'm more emboldened with my harmless planning and dreaming of a comfortable vacation and retirement house with the views up the hill.

You are not crazy it is just like they convince you to sell your house maybe so that you can use your money for whatever you need and also save the rest.

Yes, I understand. And they make that very loud and clear.

Dont mind them then. You are old enough to decide for yourself anyway.
