Ties That Bind

I am sitting on the bank in the backyard. The first thing to cross my mind is how everything seems distorted, but that thought is fleeting. Instead I focus on my surroundings. Atleast fifty family members are outside, the sun is shining and the wind feels nice on my skin. I can not smell the barbecue, but I'm aware that pork is being cooked. I see bread and condiments being placed on a table. The table is covered in a white cloth.
No one comes up to greet me, I am like an outcast, barely visible. I observe my family as they mill around, socializing and laughing. My heart fills with hatred for them, a contempt that I can't explain. Why am I invisible to them? But then, why do I care?
I look to my right, but can not see what it is I am seeking. A white canvas blocks my view, and I am itching to know if it lies beyond that. My legs feel heavy, I can not stand. A family member with no face walks over and hands me a plate. Chips, baked beans and a hot dog with onion and ketchup. I feast on it without tasting. I didn't realize how ravenous I was.
No drink is brought to me, but the flavor of coca cola fills my mouth and I swallow. It burns my throat and leaves a sore feeling. I look to the canvas again, but it is gone.
A man stands above me, blocking the sun and my view. He doesn't say anything at first, just drops to sit beside me and offer a sheepish, guilt ridden smile.
It is then that I see the shackles that bind me. He offers no explanation, and gives me no freedom.
I sit and watch as the day goes by, things are thrown out, packed away, and my family retreats to the safety of the house.

I wondered while I was reading the if you were going to find out you were a ghost in the end.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I understand. Sometimes when people go far back in my posts and comment I can't really answer their questions as easily as I could have if it was a recent post. I bookmarked this to read later when I got time and unfortunately never got time to until last night.

It's been so while since I dreamt this. I am not quite sure what it was about anymore, but I wasn't a ghost. Just a prisoner, in a way.

@shaggin That is fine. I am falling behind on my notifications, I feel bad about that honestly. I've decided I wasnt' going to write another discussion until I had time to catch up.

I haven't seen you here in quite a long time.
I agree, some dreams are horrible. It does feel good to write them out so as to get them out of our heads.

That kind of dream can stay with you a good part of the day sometimes so I wrote it out and got rid of that awful feeling.
Wishing everyone only good dreams.
Have been around but not so much as before.

@lovinangelsinstead21 I would like to get a dream catcher and put it over my bed.
Yes, I have been here a lot lately and I haven't seen you in quite sometime. Hope you can find more time to be here soon.

My dreams from last night were even more unsettling. Though I can not recall them all.
The dream that this piece was based on? Well, I did take some creative license. In the dream I was not really shackled, but the emotion of being tethered and alone? That was there.

You write very well. When I am reading it I feel like I am there.

Thank You. It was based off of a dream, which is why I think I am able to convey things so easily. I just close my eyes and feel, then type.
