Fart Proudly by Ben Franklin

Ben Franklin was loaded with talent. The guy was a successful author, politician, diplomat, scientist, inventor, Founding Father of the USA, and more. Ben was also was a prankster and quite witty. Ben was the US Ambassador of France in 1781, and Ben decided to mess with the Royal Academy of Brussels, just for fun. Ben Franklin believed that the Royal Academy of Brussels, along with a variety of other academic societies of the day, was too pretentious and beyond impractical. Now, the Royal Academy of Brussels was asking for some serious scientific papers. Ben felt the aroma of human farts was a problem, and he wanted those who were serious when it came to science to do something to make human farts smell delightful. In 'A Letter to a Royal Academy,' also called "Fart Proudly," “A Letter to a Royal Academy about Farting," and "To the Royal Academy of Farting,” Ben made the suggestion that a drug be developed that could be mixed with food to ensure that farts no longer were offensive and were "agreeable smelling as perfumes." Ben did feel that other sciences, not the one that would determine how to make farts smell delightful, were “scarcely worth a FART-HING.” Ben was wise enough not to send “Fart Proudly” to the Royal Academy of Brussels, but he did send "Fart Proudly" to philosopher and friend Richard Price, and he also sent a copy to the well-known chemist, Joseph Priestly. I do wish Ben had sent "Fart Proudly" to the Royal Academy of Brussels because if a solution had been found to make farts smell like "perfumes," it sure would have saved the world a lot of stink. This past weekend, between Trump's inauguration, protests, and the Women's Marches across the US, emotions have been a bit high. So for today's episode, I pr...

Ben was a hoot. I read that they did not want his help writing the Declaration of Independence because they were afraid he would sneak some jokes into it. They let him sign it, though.

I believe Ben might of been thinking of Gas-X as a solution ha, ha. That Mr. Franklin was a "real gas."

Thank you. I read that they did not want him to help write the Declaration of Independence due to Ben's habit of sneaking subtle jokes into writings. They let him sign it, so that was good.

Ah but then whose idea of a good smelling perfume would be chosen?

I suppose a variety of choices from which to choose would be necessary. Of course, no matter what was chosen, there would be those who did not like the fragrance.

Now there's a book that many a prankster might want to get their hands on. I'll leave it to them.
