Miranda Lambert rock covers: #11 "Rocky Mountain Way"

I can hear fourwalls groaning in agony already. I do not know what to make of Miranda performing “Rocky Mountain Way” during her Livin’ Like Hippies tour. What is a Texas girl doing singing about Colorado? “Rocky Mountain Way” (1973) was Joe Walsh’s first solo hit. He had left the James Gang, put together a backup band Barnstorm and was living in Colorado. Though the song is given group writing credit, Walsh wrote “Rocky Mountain Way” inspired by the beauty and lifestyle of Colorado. From the album “The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get,” “Rocky Mountain Way” reached Billboard #23 and to me, Walsh’s signature song. Once again, Miranda selects a 70s rocker. I wish I knew her reasons behind her unusual rock cover choices. “Rocky Mountain Way” really is not a good selection for her. It is similar to what was Linda Ronstadt doing with “Tumbling Dice.” This song is so Joe Walsh unique with sounds that cannot be duplicated. The best part is her band playing well while she stands by. Walsh thanks her for the residual checks.
