The Oscars

In many previous years, I've looked forward to, and enjoyed The Oscars Show. Over the past few, my enthusiasm has diminished considerably. This year, after suffering the results from too many previous years, I've had enough. I don't even think Academy Awards mean anything. I doubt I'll watch at all this year. The Oscars have become more political, and social engineering celebrations than anything to do with the motion picture industry. Too many "Best Picture" winners, were movies that a person would be lucky to sit though once, and mildly enjoy at best. Think of how many movies win best picture, you never/rarely see rented, owned, played, or featured on streaming video. "Chariots of Fire", "Quest For Fire", "Ghandi", Heck, I can't remember most of them. I was so infuriated when Samuel Jackson didn't win Best Actor for Pulp Fiction, so they could give Martin Landau an Oscar for what would be his last chance, for a mediocre imperonation of Bela Lagosi in "Ed Wood", Then the years where political correctness runs away with publicity because not enough actors of one race or another weren't nominated. What will the Oscar news be this year? Perhaps Bohemian Rhapsody will win five awards, I don't know, I don't care. I haven't seen any of the films nominated. I want to see Bohemian Rhapsody, I home the Oscar Hype doesn't spoil it for me. What do you think about the Oscars this year? Let me know before, and after, please.

I don’t think I’ve ever watched the Oscars in its entirety. Cecil B. DeMille movies were shorter. I haven’t been to the movies since 1987 (and even then I saw an “underground” film, not a major release). I totally agree with you that the Oscars are a political show, not a program to honor good movies. But then, how many GOOD movies do they make anymore? PS: I loved Gandhi, and thought Ben Kingsley deserved his Oscar. But I agree that they do “compensation” awards. While Pacino was great in Scent of a Woman he should have won numerous times in the 70s.

You're right, Kingsley diid deserve his Oscar, I don't think it was the best picture. Nor, did I enjoy watching it. Kinglsey was great however.

My former neighbor, John ottman, won the Oscar for film editing for Bohemian Rhapsody. He's the one who mentioned his Oscra is going on his parents mantel to thank them for letting him make movies in their garage in their house on normington Way in san Jose. That is in my neighborhood.yesterday a local news crew came to interview denizens of Normington way, which is in my neighborhood. No one they interviewed knew him personally, though.John Ottman didn't mention where his parents live now.
