Where do you sit when going out to dinner?

Whenever my husband and I go out to dinner alone we always sit across from each other. I sometimes see people sitting next to each other and I think that is so odd. I think it is easier to sit across from each other so we can see each other better. What do you think about this? Where do you and the person you are having dinner together sit? Across or Next?

Sitting side by side sounds absurd to me! I always sit across a person. I choose the chair which faces the whole room. I don't want to see only one person and the wall. :-)

I am so glad so many people here agree with me. Whenever we go out and I see a couple sitting next to each other when the other side of the table is empty, I think it is so strange. I would rather face who ever I am with. It is almost like the person on the outside of the table doesn't want the other people to get up and leave.

We always sit across, so we can talk while we wait for our food.

Mostly we sit across from each other but it depends on the occasion really. If we're with others we might sit side by side.

We do that to if we are with a lot of people and the tables are round. To me it just looks so silly to be sitting next to each other when alone at a restaurant. I like room to be able to move and I like to look at the other persons face.

My husband and I always sit across from eachother. I think it is much easier to talk that way. Somehow it just doesn't feel right to sit next to eachother, because it is hard to see eachother that way.

My husband and I sit across from each other. Same reason as you. But when I'm having dinner with my husband and our friends, I would usually sit next to my friend because we would whisper gossips at each other and show some things on our cellphones.

If just two people,we definitely sit across from each other. The way we can talk to each other without turning our faces.

If at a table we sit across unless someone else is with us. Then we usually sit beside each other.

We prefer to sit across each other and near the window. Next to each other looks odd

We always sit opposite each other. I would not have it any other way unless we are in a group then we may sit beside each other rather than across!

I've always felt most comfortable sitting across from my significant other. It makes it easy to see them as you are talking to them. I did date a girl once who insisted on sitting next to me when we were out to dinner, instead of across from me. It felt very odd to me.

I sit across from my companion. In a sports bar we might sit both facing the TV

No matter who I am with, I like to sit across. You have more room and you have face to face contact.
