Work From Home Can Be Isolating

I always dreamt of work from home but just a month at home and one of the things I experienced is being isolated. I would sometimes go to my mother's place, chat the help or go to my brother's house to have some social interaction. Or perhaps I have not yet adjusted. Do you experience this as well? How do you deal?

It is good to go out and do the work. You know why, for us, we get a routine to go out and get socialise with people. At home we become lazy and idle.

I sure can relate to you. I've been working from home for 14 years now and have felt lonely and isolated many, many times. Online chats don't help much. What I do is talk to our neighbors, see a friend who might be available for a meetup, or chat with other school moms. Some days I'd ask a friend from Manila to sleep over our house so I could have good conversations.

@yoalldudes yes, the irony of it all. back when i was working for a software company, i was often dreaming of being in the comforts of my home and writing a gazillion articles. i didn't realize that it could also be detrimental to my health and well-being. i worked freelance for a total of 16 or 17 years, i think. (i started kinda young.) but the totally home-based setup began when i got married and became a mom.

@almostoveryou Do you still wish to go back to an 8-5 job?

14 years is a long time. Those steps you take are good because you get to have interaction with other people in person. And I was taken by surprise when I started to feel lonely because being at home is what I love the most when I was working at the office.

That is very true especially when you take that job like you were reporting to the office. I had a project for the last one week, cooking and going out was not possible. Just finished it

@yoalldudes Yes almost 9 months now and I would be off for another one year. And all this time flew away with planning and no execution.

Guess this happens, no way around it. When you have a regular job, you still have co-workers near you and you can chat with them. Working from home drastically limits your interactions.

I experienced this before working in the government, but it was not an online job and I had a lot of interaction because I had a small business and was actively participating in people's organizations and cooperative affairs. It was also rewarding because I attended to my mother who was in her 80's. At least I had spent precious time with her in her last years, which I never did when I was younger because I studied and worked in Manila.

It is not easy whole day stay at home. It is OK for some day but not for whole life. We are social being. We can't think life with out it. I am its better experience. Due to health problem I am spending whole day at home. No one is coming to and I am also not going to anyone. My house is my world. I am feeling loneliness many time. Forum sites are helping me in this situation.

I have always wanted to work from home and I'm home all the time anyway with my disabled husband. So I don't think I would feel that way as I'm used to it but we do a lot of stuff out and about.

@yoalldudes yeah I would say that you need to get used to it and it will take time, but when you do work full time from home just get out and about when possible.

I guess it just needs some getting used to right? And I still haven't totally devoted to looking for online job because I'm still tied to my day job. A few times a week they would call me about some work at the office.

That is what I like. I want some days at the workplace and some days where I can do the tasks from home. I wish I can find such a company that would hire me.
