It all started last night. My adapter for my laptop began to fade. It will be going to that great used and worn out adapter heaven with those that went before. I don't know what number adapter I'm on now. My daughter is always nice enough to replace them for me. I've been through more than one. It's Saturday and I had plans to do some online work on my laptop. But there was no way the battery would hold out for the amount of time that I needed to do the work. My daughter did her usual thing and ordered me another adapter. She said it would take 2 days to arrive. 2 days?? My mind calculated that as TWO CENTURIES!!! I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG!! On many occasions, I have seen my husband take things apart, use a piece of tape or a hanger or whatever was on hand in the house, and get whatever piece of equipment that was broken, working again. I laughed and said to my husband: "You know the kids have a name for what you do. They call it 'ghetto-rigging'." I can't call a geek squad. My daughter has done all she intended to do to help me. But I was determined to get some work done today!! No way I'm waiting 2 days!! So what did I do? I did one of my husband's numbers. I know nothing about electronics or electrical stuff. But I have seen him cross wires and get stuff working again. I opened up that adapter and took a look inside. I saw a burned wire. I asked my husband to lend me a hand. He stripped some of the plastic off the wire and said: "I see something here that says negative." I'm like "OK. Touch it with the wire and let's see what happens." A light came on! I'm like "That's it!!" I took it from there. I got a pair of scissors and a piece of tape and ...ghetto-rigged that adapter! What's that? Did it work?? Well! I'm here on MyLot typing up a discussion and my laptop shows that the battery is 88% and still charging. I've been working on my laptop all day just as planned. YAY!! Not a geek, but my desperation made me learn how to ghetto-rig!

In the end you don't have to wait 2 days, well done to make it work again.

Way to go! Kids of today know nothing about banging, kicking and tinkering to get something working again. They only know of replacing.

Hehe, very nice . I do this kind of things too, but whenever I have the chance I replace the old equipment with a new one, it's safer .
