Nothing sees to be going right these day. I have been taking low-dose for years. Now the new this morning. This is no longer recommended for older adults. Guess I need to put a call to my cardiologist on this. below is some information from the USA Today news. Have you heard about this. __________________________________________ USA today news this morning Taking an low-dose aspirin every day to prevent a heart attack or stroke is no longer recommended for most older adults, according to guidelines released Sunday. After doctors said for decades that a daily 75 to 100 milligrams of aspirin could prevent cardiovascular problems, the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association just reversed that idea. This change comes after a large clinical trial found a daily low-dose aspirin had no effect on prolonging life in healthy, elderly people, and actually suggested the pills could be linked to major hemorrhages.

Just another case of experts telling you do one thing (the aspirin industry profited) then reversed themselves.

After my Open Heart Surgery, I was told to take a baby Aspirin a day (81 mg aspirin) on top of my daily Warfarin which I have no choice not to take if I want to stay on this earth.

You shouldn't need or take both!!! Warfarin should do the job. I have an aorta valve replacement, AFib, PAD and have been taking Warfarin since 1999 and except for black and blue marks all over it works fine! No aspirin---I am allowed Aleve for pain or headaches, etc.

This is something that the local doctor told to my husband 2 years ago, he was firm "stop taking a low-dose aspirin, every medication has side effects". My husband feels a lot better since he stopped

@amadeo As a rule of thumb, when you can avoid medications, it's better not to take them.

I heard this on the news earlier this morning. They seem to change recommendations all the time . . . "this" is good for you one day . . . the next day it is not. Sometimes I think they really don't know.

I did hear something about that a little while ago. The problem is that of course new information is constantly coming to light, and the guidelines change as a result. For decades no-one thought aspirin was for anything other than headaches, then it turned out it might help prevent cardiovascular diseases. But of course there was no way to study whether this was really true until people tried taking it for the long term, and when they did and the results were analysed, this is what they found. Knowledge is constantly evolving. Maybe it did you good for the years you have taken it, who knows? After all you are still here! Better stop now though.

Wow, Aspirin has been considered heart-wise for a long time. I think you are wise to wait, and speak with your cardiologist.

It is just like the experts saying that eggs are bad for your health and now they are saying they are good for your health in moderation. They also said the same thing about coffee.

That's not new--in 1999 my doc wouldn't let me take the aspirin routine ---instead he put me on Warfarin--a blood thinner and it works fine!

These so called experts can be so irritating. One minute telling you to take it the next not to. Same goes for these health freaks Coffee is good for you, no it isn't yes it is. I think a little in moderation is the key to all this.
