Ready for Holika dahan.

We have a big festival of colors called Holi. On the eve of the festival, we celebrate Holika dahan. We get a bonfire and celebrate around it.
As I returned home after shopping, I clicked this picture. My apartment complex is ready for this bonfire celebration which is scheduled at 8 PM. So it will be there in few hours.
You can see the bonfire in centre and all colorful hangings giving a festive feel.
We have a custom of offering some home made delicacies and fresh harvest to the fire. The fire signifies burning all the evils and welcoming good in our lives.
There is always good food and good music to enjoy. Children love it.
I will take my nap and then do some cooking and preparation. A lot needs to be cooked as part of tradition.
Later at 6 I have to take my daughter for music class. While she will have her class, I will do my evening walk in nearby park.
And then I will join the celebration.
I badly need my nap now to get the energy to do all that has to be done later.

Yes people offer different things at different places. We offer pakoda, pua and some freshly harvrsted wheat. Happy Holi

@arunima25 In India rituals of celebrating festivals are different at different place. Now you are celebrating as per rituals of South but it is much differ from your native place UP.

@anil02 Here they don't celebrate Holi. Only North Indians do. This is the custom followed in my in law's side. They are from Jharkhand.

I haven't been to many bonfires, but the few I have been to were on the beach. Those I loved!

I needed that nap and I am happy that I could work till now. It is 10: 45 PM but all preparations and celebrations kept me awake. It was a wonderful bonfire. We enjoyed it.

@DianneN Bonfire on beach... That brings some nostalgia. We had one during our college days on one of our college trips. That was two decades back. Those carefree days.

Yes it was a good time with friends and family. We enjoyed the two days of it and yesterday I took whole day to relax and take naps. I was so tired.

It was a good celebration. Since people play colors and do get wet, I didn't take my mobile to be on safe side. So no pictures.

Happy belated Holi! Hoping this Holika Dahan, the evil is destroyed as Holika was. I haven't participated this year. It is very common around here since I live in the National Capital Region.

It is not so popular in other parts of country as in North. In our apartment, there is a considerable population of all parts of India so all festival get celebrated

We make the bonfire with dried palm branches, newspapers etc. But for offerings, different people offer different things. We offer pakodas and fresh wheat.
