Toads get celebrity attention!

Toad patrols are still in action, helping toads across the roads to their breeding ponds and, at this stage in the season, helping some of them back to the woods as well. Last night one of our nearby patrols, in Henley-on-Thames, had a visit from Russel Brand who happened to be passing by. He posted a photo to his Twitter feed @rustyrockets. Maybe this will get a few more people out to help?

I guess there is always room for more volunteers.

We could certainly use a few more. No-one really wants to have to go out every night for 2 months! If we could manage a team of 4 or 5 each night, and every person only signed up for one night a week, we'd need 35 volunteers I think, which is more than twice as many as we have at the moment.

@Fleura I suppose people know about it? Sometimes these things go on under people's noses but they have no idea it's happening.

@JudyEv You're right, they don't notice! It's in the local paper every year, on local radio, it's been in the village newsletter and the village FB group too I think, but still many people don't know what's going on. Really we could do with a dedicated publicity volunteer!

Nice that he did a little bit to help. I used to have a toad in my garden, but I think the poor thing has fallen victim to cats

I'm not his biggest fan but perhaps he will go up in my estimation if he creates some positive publicity!

I do not mind them but would not want them around as they attract snakes.

They are doing the same here and I noticed a couple around our pond, I know we are going to have soon a nice concert during the night.

If it helps bring more publicity for the toads that will be great. How long will they need help for? Oops just read your comment to Judy and I see it's two months.

I'm certain the more volunteers you get, the better. Great photo!

@Fleura That is something. That is great there are those that help toads across the toads across the road.
