I stopped being annoyed anymore, now I look at this as an art.
The way, in which they tangled is a pure art.
And that always happens to me, especially if I'm hurrying and if I need it right away.
Even and when I neatly arrange them and postpone them, it happens the same.
Is this happening to you too?

@LowRiderX Those would be much better. I used to use them for walking, but don't really need them.

@DianneN I was thinking about that too, to change them for those larger headphones (I use them mostly as long as I work)

This always happens to me, every time! No matter what I do, it always ends up tangled up somehow.

@LowRiderX yes, it does seem to be a very common problem. It also happens to me a lot when I am working with rope, or the cord to the vacuum cleaner.

@CarolDM I often use them and remove them for a short time (when I do) I can not tie them all the time, I would lose a lot of time..

I find things tangled up and it takes time to untangle them or sometmes I just cannot do it.

You seem to be a very good philosopher + detective
. I pondered about that 'art' sometimes, while trying to dig the headphone out from my handbag. (Before leaving the house, I couldn't find it in my handbag, on the train, I found two sets . How's that for magic?

@LowRiderX One of my very young relatives told me so. She said (after searching for something unsuccessfully), 'OK, I will just have to pretend to myself that I no longer need it, and it will be there again!'
I used her tricks, didn't work one bit!

Yes, pretty much every time. I have even resorted to using twist ties to keep the wires in place with limited success. Those headphone wires tangle anyway

@LowRiderX Yes, a friend of mine uses wireless ones that she charges on her laptop. I might just have to invest in some!

With iPhone 7, Apple could be about to solve one of the most annoying things about mobile phones: The way your earbud headphones always get tangled in knots when you're not using them.
