Full moon, gun shots and an endurance ride

I nearly had to beg to be allowed to use this photo as Vince says it isn’t very good. It looks fine to me. I think it is supposed to be crisper but I thought you might like to see the full moon as it appeared tonight. Earlier we’d heard a shotgun and can only imagine that someone was shooting kangaroos. After the shots a lot of roos went past the house heading for the bush. We have new neighbours who are renting. They have five dogs so perhaps they were looking for some cheap dog food. I hate to think of the roos being shot but I can't do much about it. Tomorrow we are taking the caravan to a small place called Wilga to take photos at the first endurance ride of the season. We’re only staying one night then will be back home to process them and get them up on our website.

@JudyEv I know for sure that my husband is an 'obsessive perfectionist' no matter what he does, including a hole in the wall to hang a towel. I am sorry for the roos, I would like that people would not kill animals.

@kepweng My husband is really finicky, sometimes doing things quickly is more important that doing things "perfectly". Should he cook we would eat once per month.

I love the picture of the moon. It has a lot of detail to it. It's a shame someone is shooting roos. Have fun at the endurance ride.

Not fair for the Kangaroos. That is a nice photo - seems like a copyright issue here (lol)

It is a shame about the roos. I hope they don't get the ones that are a bit tame.

You're allowed to shoot on your own property. As soon as there is one loud bang the rest of the roos are quick to disappear so that is one good thing.

The moon looks great to me! I was so lucky to see it last night. We had clouds blowing in from the ocean, but they parted enough for a beautiful view. My camera is awful for taking photos of it, so very happy to see Vince's photo. Those poor roos.

Sometimes it's really hard to get a good shot but last night there were no clouds in the way.

I pity the kangaroos being shot! Is it legal to kill them?

I think it is a good shot too. I heard there was a supermoon, but I did not look for it last night. Have fun in Wilga. Is it legal to shoot roos?

You can shoot them on your own property or if a farmer gives you permission.

Sad for the kangaroos. They can be hunt during the night ? Not a hunter worth this name would hunt at night, it is just good for poachers. I think they will quickly know where it is safe to stay.

@kepweng Yes, the first time was in 1992 during an international fair in Sevilla (Spain). It was forbidden in France until the end of the 1990's ; now we have people breeding kangaroos, and we can buy kangaroo meat, but it is not something that I like.

It was getting on dusk when the roos are more likely to come out of the bush to feed. Hunters hunt at night here with the aid of a spotlight. It isn't about being crafty and clever - just about getting rid of a pest.

@topffer Gosh, we don't have anyone breeding roos here for meat. They would be impossible to herd like sheep or cattle. I just can't imagine it being able to be done. Our kangaroo meat would come from wild roos.

We're home again now and the trip went well. The weather was just about perfect. I was a bit concerned that it would be very hot but it wasn't at all.

That's a great photo of the moon! If you look closely enough, you can see one of the Apollo landing craft that was left on the moon by American astronauts. {Before you go blind searching for it, you can't really see the Apollo landing craft on the moon! haha} Last weekend, when I was camping, we were awoken at about 6:00 AM by gunshots from a rifle. I can only assume that someone was hunting deer. I think it's still hunting season here, so I don't think it was any illegal hunting going on, but I could be wrong.

@JudyEv It was a little unnerving because it was so early in the morning and the gunshots woke me up, and it sounded so close. All the land on the other side of the river is privately owned, so I think someone was hunting on the other side of the river near the banks, which made it sound like it was so close.

Although I know I've very gullible there was no way I was going to believe THAT! Gunshots out of the blue are always a bit unnerving I think.
