A definite improvement!

As some of you probably remember, back in January I decided to try the 5:2 ‘diet’ which I posted about before. This was not really about weight loss but more because I was interested in the health benefits, as it is alleged to reduce the risks of cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes etc. and I want to stay alive! Even more pertinent now because one of my university friends died suddenly last week from a massive stroke : ( Anyway I’ve been sticking at it for 11 weeks (by tomorrow) and haven’t found it too outrageously difficult; I planned to aim for 6 months and see how I got on. However I had a pleasant surprise this morning when I fastened my belt and found it will now easily reach the first hole! That is two holes smaller than when I started, as you can probably see by the marks. That has happened without me even noticing much. By the end of the 6 months I might need to get the hole punch out! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2019.

That's good! Remember that a healthy diet isn't just about losing weight. We need to eat food that promotes health. W e also need to drink enough water, do exercise, take some sun, get enough sleep and have a positive and spiritual attitude.

Thanks! Yes we do try to do those as well - eating plenty of fruit and vegetables especially. I ride my bike a lot and work in the garden too.

The 5'2 diet sounds alittle like the Military Diet which I am on. I will have to read about that. I like the Military Diet because you only have to be on it 3 days a week..the weight loss has been minimal though because I have been pigging out on the days not on it..I am cutting that out though..so we will see how it goes this week.

@Fleura The military diet is simple, cheap and doesn't require a lot of cooking. I dislike diets that want you to cook or buy all their foods. I only like to cook when I feel like it..and don't want to buy special ingredients.

I hadn't heard of that, I had to look it up. Yes it does sound a bit like it, but less complicated. It doesn't promise any rapid weight loss either, but it apparently controls diabetes, reduces IGF1 levels etc.

Well done, if you are feeling good and getting healthier that is what matters, the weight loss is just a bonus.

@Fleura I have reduced my portions from about 10 days, I have to get off those 2 pounds gained during winter. It should not take too long.

What do you eat then or what do you do to slim down?

Basically for two separate days of the week (I'm doing Mondays and Thursdays) you restrict yourself to 800 calories or less. The rest of the time just do what you usually do. I haven't got the time or the motivation to weigh and measure all my food to work out the calorie content, so instead, on the two restricted days, I simply miss out breakfast and lunch, only have a couple of cups of coffee with a little splash of milk, hot water with lemon, or similar drinks until dinner time, then eat the regular meal with the family (on the assumption that a normal meal usually falls within the 800 calorie limit). As you can see, something seems to be happening! Slow but steady.

@Fleura oh my, it’s a lot of discipline! And you are so good at it. I cant avoid pork. I meant i eat it thrice a week in small servings.

@Janet357 Do you think so? I didn't think it was, that's why I am able to do it! If you fancy a biscuit or something, you just tell yourself you can have one tomorrow : )

I start my diet also soon but sometimes if the foods are tempting,it is difficult to say no.

That is why this system works so well, because you only have to say no for one day, you tell yourself you can have what you like tomorrow!
